WHAT TO DO IF SOMEONE IS SICK OR HURT<br />

Assess the seriousness <strong>of</strong> the situation. If the injury is minor, then contact Reception for a<br />

staff member trained in first aid or locate a first aid kit. If the situation is more serious,<br />

dial “000” and request an ambulance in the local area.<br />

First aid kits can be found in the staff room and student retreat <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Rural</strong> <strong>Health</strong> Academic<br />

Centre building – Dunvegan. First aid kits can be found in the kitchenette on the ground floor,<br />

kitchenette on the 1st floor and the main kitchen at Midlands accommodation. A first aid kit<br />

can also be found on the laundry bench just <strong>of</strong>f the kitchen/dining area <strong>of</strong> the Drummond<br />

Street house, and in the kitchen <strong>of</strong> the Wendouree Parade house.<br />

The <strong>Accommodation</strong> addresses are:<br />

Drummond Street House, 12 Drummond Street South, Ballarat<br />

Ballarat <strong>Health</strong> Services (5320 4000) in Drummond Street, has a 24 hours Accident and<br />

Emergency Centre. There is a fee paying Accident and Emergency Centre, at St. John <strong>of</strong> God,<br />

Private Hospital, Drummond Street, Ballarat. Ballarat also has bulk billing medical services<br />

for health science students, please contact your local student administration or the Student<br />

Support Officer. 11
