elated interventions such as ART, much more remains<br />

to be done. More than one-third <strong>of</strong> incident TB cases are<br />

not reported as treated in DOTS programmes, around<br />

90% <strong>of</strong> patients with MDR-TB are not being diagnosed<br />

and treated according to international guidelines, many<br />

HIV-positive TB cases do not know their HIV status and<br />

most <strong>of</strong> the HIV-positive TB patients who do know their<br />

HIV status are not yet being provided with ART. Funding<br />

gaps remain large at more than US$ 1 billion per<br />

year, despite increases in funding over the past decade<br />

and substantial financing from the <strong>Global</strong> Fund in many<br />

countries.<br />

Looking forwards, the Stop TB Partnership launched<br />

an updated version <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Global</strong> Plan to Stop TB in<br />

October <strong>2010</strong>, for the years 2011–2015. In the five<br />

years that remain until the target year <strong>of</strong> 2015, intensified<br />

efforts to plan, finance and implement the Stop TB<br />

Strategy, according to the updated targets included in<br />

the <strong>Global</strong> Plan, are needed. This could save a cumulative<br />

total <strong>of</strong> 5 million lives, including 2 million women and<br />

children.
