Thomas Pinkney <strong>Bryan</strong> b: 9 Oct 1861<br />

• Information: 1810, Bedford County, Tennessee. John Neely <strong>Bryan</strong> was born to James<br />

and Elizabeth (Neely) <strong>Bryan</strong> in Bedford County Tennessee. He attended the<br />

Fayetteville Military Academy located at Fayetteville in the adjoining County of<br />

Lincoln. He was admitted to the Tennessee Bar upon complotting his education. In<br />

1833 John headed for Arkansas, a young attorney in pursuit of the family endeavor of<br />

trading furs with Native Americans. James and a fur-trading partner laid out the town<br />

of Van Buren Arkansas. He visited Texas in 1839, returned to Arkansas to settle<br />

affairs there in the spring of 1840, and then returned to Texas in 1841. John was the<br />

prime mover in establishment of the City of Dallas while living on the east bank of the<br />

Trinity River, and instrumental in organizing the new county of Dallas 1in 1846. When<br />

Dallas was made the County Seat in 1850, John Neely <strong>Bryan</strong> donated land to build the<br />

new Courthouse.<br />
