• Information: 9 Apr 1730, Frederick County, Virginia. We could not prove any children<br />

born to John and Sarah. The 1790 Census proves them both living Rowan County, but<br />

in 1800 there are no <strong>Bryan</strong> families enumerated that Census Record. By that, it is<br />

evident that John died after writing his will, and Sarah died before it was probated or<br />

moved on with any of the children born to them. John was Sheriff of Rowan County<br />

1759 when the position was mostly held by artisans, and it is evident John was a<br />

planter. He was serving in the Militia 1759 while he was Sheriff, and noted as such on<br />

tax records for 1759. This John <strong>Bryan</strong> did not serve in the Military during the<br />

Revolution.<br />

• Proof: 4 Mar 1780, Rowan County, North Carolina. On March 4, 1780, John Ortan was<br />

granted 300 acres on the south bank of the South Yadkin River. On February 7, 1786,<br />

John Brandon and John Orton signed as security for a bond of 300 pounds for orphan<br />

children of John <strong>Bryan</strong>: Sarah <strong>Bryan</strong>, Jean Brian and John Brian. In the 1797 will of<br />

John <strong>Bryan</strong>, Sr., "Jean Ortan" was listed as a daughter.<br />

• Location: 1790, Rowan County, North Carolina. US 1790 Census - Rowan County,<br />

Robinson, in Rowan County, North Carolina. Jane was born in 1731 in Rockcastle County,<br />

Delaware and died in 1758 in Rowan County, North Carolina at age 27.<br />

• Information: 1731, Rockcastle County, Delaware. Jane was the daughter of Richard<br />

Brandon and his wife, Katherine Robinson - After Jane died, her husband John<br />

remarried her sister, Sarah.<br />
