I Joseph <strong>Bryan</strong> of the County of Jefferson, State of Kentucky, being weak in body but<br />

of sound and perfect mind and memory, blessed be almighty God for the same, do make<br />

and publish this my last will and testament in manner and form following (that is to say)<br />

after my lawful debts are settled I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Alee a gray<br />

mare, a bed and furniture and thirty dollars, either cash or property.<br />

I also bequeath to my sons, Samuel, Joseph and John <strong>Bryan</strong> the sum of fifty dollars<br />

each, either cash or property.<br />

I also give and bequeath unto my youngest son John <strong>Bryan</strong> one negro man names<br />

James and all the farming tools.<br />

I also bequeath unto my daughters Martha Boon and Rebecca Boon the sum of twenty<br />

dollars each, either cash or property.<br />

I also give unto my other daughters, Mary Howard, Susanna Hinkle, Aylee Howard,<br />

Phoebe Forbis and Charity Davis the sum of fity dollars each.<br />

I also give and bequeath unto my daughter Elinor Adams a negro woman named Jean.<br />

I also give to my grand daughter Aylee Adams one negro girl named Sarah.<br />

I also give and bequeath unto my grandson Noah Adams one negro boy named Sapio.<br />

I also give unto my grandson Jacob Adams one negro boy named Bob.<br />

I also give and bequeath unto my grandson Wilah Adams a negro girl named Lottie.<br />

And I do hereby appoint my two sons Joseph and John <strong>Bryan</strong> executors of this my last<br />

will and testament, hereby revoking all former wills sand testaments made by me. In<br />

witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this twentieth day of November<br />

1804.<br />

Joseph married Hester Simpson in 1736 in Orange County, Virginia. Hester was born in 1721<br />

in Spotsylvania County, Virginia and died in 1741 in Frederick County, Virginia at age 20.<br />

Noted events in her life were:<br />

• Information: 1721, Spotsylvania County, Virginia. Hester was the daughter of James<br />

Simpson of Spotsylvania County, Virginia. Her father held land in the part of Essex<br />

County that become part of Spotsylvania in 1721, then became part of Orange County<br />

in 1735. Her father died intestate in Orange County Virginia before 1740 at which time<br />

she and Joseph were living in the newly formed Frederick County created from<br />

unclaimed territory in 1739.<br />

Children from this marriage were:<br />

87 F i. Martha <strong>Bryan</strong> was born on 19 Mar 1737 in Frederick County, Virginia and<br />

died before 23 Jul 1793 in Boone's Creek, Fayette County, Kentucky.<br />

Martha married Edward Boone (d. 5 Oct 1780).<br />

88 F ii. Rebecca <strong>Bryan</strong> was born on 9 Jan 1739 in Frederick County, Virginia and<br />

died on 18 Mar 1813 in St. Charles County, Missouri at age 74.<br />

Rebecca married James Daniel Boone (d. 26 Sep 1820) on 14 Aug 1756 in<br />

Rowan County, North Carolina.<br />
