FROM THE DESK OF FATHER BLANEY...
Have you ever seen such beautiful colors in the fall trees. Our sunset maples
are outstanding.
We inaugurated a new gazebo the other night. Had supper in it with 31 people
in attendance. All of them as varied as the colors of the trees. We sat around and
playfully kidded each other. You’d swear we were in a pub in Ireland sans alcohol.
And we sang some old camp songs. One was Silent Night in duck language. No
one really wanted to leave. Community here is a beautiful, multi-splendored thing.
Each person is different but adds to the beautiful scene. Come out and enjoy the
real beauty of these days. We’ve got grass starting in the new village. We are
picking up black walnuts, harvesting the red raspberries and apples making our red
raspberry applesauce. There are a few promptings necessary but fewer and fewer.
God is good.
We went out on a limb in building the third village. It will take all of our regular
income to maintain it and the other two villages and more. And we need to pay off
the construction loan. We trust in God through your kindness. God bless you!
CAMP CORNER
It is hard to believe we are already halfway through the fall mini-camp season! Both September and October camps
were a success with veteran and first time campers coming together for fellowship and friendship. November’s camp
is right around the corner so if you have not been to camp yet this fall, now is the time to sign up! November minicamp
will start on Friday, November 12 th at 7:00 p.m. and end on Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. with a meaningful
closing ceremony. The theme for this month is peace, the third fruit of the spirit. Activities, crafts and discussions will
focus on peace as the holiday season is approaching. If you are interested in attending camp, please contact the Share
Foundation office at 219-778-2585 as soon as possible. Camp slots are filled on a first come first serve basis and
camp has been filling up quickly!
like to attend. The cost is $2 per person for 2 hours of dancing to music provided by a D.J. and a snack and drink during
a dance break. Come join us on Saturday, November 13 th at 6:30 p.m.

THOUGHTS FROM THE EXECUTIVE
DIRECTOR
By Kathleen Kelly
I always look at Thanksgiving as a time of reflection on the many blessings
God has so generously provided. This year there is much to be thankful for with
the opening of the 3 rd village at Sharing Meadows and the addition of new
Villagers and stewards to our community. I am especially thankful for the joy of
community as we celebrate the 10 th anniversary of the residential program at
Sharing Meadows!
Ten years of alternate living, ten years of growth is something to celebrate!
When we purchased the land, we were full of hopes and dreams of a peaceful
place where people – no matter what their abilities were – would be valued for
who they are, not what they could do. Years of successful summer camps made
us realize that other abled adults thrived in a community setting and needed one
for full time living, not just once a year in the summer. So many people predicted
that a residential community would never work without funding and direction from
the state. We believed that it was possible without state support and we were
determined to make it work with faith, tenacity, and good old-fashioned physical
labor.
There was so much to do and we faced each task with faith that this was what
God wanted us to do and we went forward – building and furnishing the homes,
hiring staff, determining criteria for residency, establishing policies and selecting
villagers. The first Villagers moved in on November 1, 1994 and the dream of the
residential community of Sharing Meadows was a reality!
I can still see the excitement on the faces of the Villagers as they moved into
their new home. I can still feel the excitement in my heart in realizing that we had
helped them to achieve this milestone with many more to come. The Villagers
were enthusiastic about their new home, their new friends and the chance to live
independently and we were determined to do whatever was necessary to help
them achieve success.
Now I look at the residential program 10 years later and I am filled with
gratitude for the many blessings God has given us. Sharing Meadows has seen
so much growth in the past 10 years! We have grown to include 3 villages, the St.
Timothy Center camp building, a swimming pool and pool house, an additional
storage building and a soon to come guest house. And while the physical
changes on the grounds of Sharing Meadows are impressive, the most significant
and gratifying changes we’ve witnessed is the incredible growth in each of our
Villagers. They’ve learned new skills, strengthened friendships, welcomed
visitors, served as our ambassadors, gained maturity, and experienced joy in the
community of Sharing Meadows. Each one of them helps to make Sharing
Meadows the special place that it is as they share their own unique gifts with each
other and visitors to our land. Like the thousands of trees that have been planted
on the grounds, the Villagers have blossomed and grown as they work at
becoming the person God created them to be and we have been witnesses to this
awesome growth.
One of the Villagers mentioned to me recently that next month marks the 3 rd
anniversary of when she moved to Sharing Meadows. I answered her with
honesty that I can hardly remember what it was like before she lived here because
she, like all of the Villagers, is such a vital part of the community. As I look back
at the last 10 years, I remember all of the good and a few not so good times, and
especially recognize the tremendous growth I have been privileged to be a part
of. My heart is full of gratitude this Thanksgiving as I thank God for the community
of Sharing Meadows and realize that the best is yet to come!

30 YEARS OF
GOOD NEWS
This issue marks the 30 th
Anniversary of the Share
Foundation’s Good News letter that
brings news of the happenings at
Sharing Meadows to the homes of
many people in Northwest Indiana
and even across the country. In the
beginning the Good News was a
typewriter-produced page sent from
the Sacred Heart Parish in Michigan
City. It has grown since then into a
professionally produced publication
thanks to generosity of McKay
Printing. McKay Printing donates
the Good News to the Share
Foundation every month! The
mailing list has grown to over 10,000
households. It is such a large
project that it takes the entire
community of Sharing Meadows and
a group of volunteers to work
together on the first Monday of each
month to label and send out the
Good News. Many of the volunteers
are friends who have been coming
for many years and drive all the way
to Rolling Prairie from Michigan City.
Other volunteers have a family
member at Sharing Meadows and
come to support the program and to
have a good time with friends and
family. The Good News could not go
out without them!
Thank you to all of our readers,
volunteers and the great people at
McKay printing. We look forward to
many more years of the Good News!
If you know of anyone who would
like to receive the Good News,
please contact Mandee at 219-778-
2585 and she will add them to our
mailing list!
HAPPY
THANKSGIVING
The Villagers, Stewards and
staff of the Share Foundation would
like to wish you and your family a
very happy and joyful Thanksgiving
holiday. We will be thinking of you
on Thanksgiving as we do everyday
when we give thanks to God for your
loyal support and dedication. The
Share Foundation’s programs could
not exist without your help and we
are all grateful! Happy
Thanksgiving!

PLANNED GIVING CORNER
A Review of Bequests
A bequest is a legal provision made by a will naming, for instance, Share Foundation as recipient of the whole or
a portion of an individual’s personal estate. Please consider adding to your will a contingent or residual bequest clause
naming the Share Foundation. Bequests to Share Foundation will reduce the federal estate tax and, in most cases,
state taxes on your estate. A bequest can take many forms: unrestricted, specific, residual, or contingent. Anyone can
have bequests of this type added to their existing will without disturbing their existing estate plan:
*************************************************************************************************************************************
Unrestricted Bequest
Unrestricted Bequest: the simplest form of bequest whereby a person bequeaths a stated amount to the Share
Foundation without any conditions attached.
Example: I give to the Share Foundation _________dollars ($) or ________% of my net estate to be used
for its general purposes.
Unrestricted bequests are always welcome. At the discretion of the Foundation’s board of directors, they may be
expended for any immediate and pressing need approved by or reserved for future use.
*************************************************************************************************************************************
Specific Bequest
Specific Bequest: permits an individual to leave a specific dollar amount, or a stated percentage of his or her entire
estate, a specific asset, or a collection of assets to the Share Foundation.
Example: I give to the Share Foundation _________dollars ($) or _______% of my net estate. This gift shall
be used both as to principal and income for (describe the specific purpose to be served by the gift)_______.
A specific bequest may be used to construct or add to a building or for the restoration of one. It may be used to
purchase equipment, books, operating expenses or other supplies. Some specific bequests, because of undue
restrictions, may have their usefulness demeaned by changing times and needs. Use of a corrective clause is
recommended.
*************************************************************************************************************************************
Residual Bequest
Residual Bequest: a conditional bequest based on the balance of the estate after specific bequests have been
satisfied. At that time, the Share Foundation would receive all or a percentage of the balance that remains.
Example: All the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate, both real and personal, wherever situated, I
give, devise and bequeath to the Share Foundation.
*************************************************************************************************************************************
A Bequest Naming Foundation as a Contingent Beneficiary
Contingent Bequest: a bequest which reflects an “if possible” situation. The Share Foundation will receive a bequest
if the beneficiary of a specific bequest predeceases the maker of the will.
Example: I give to the Share Foundation as a contingent beneficiary _______dollars ($) or _______% of my
net estate.
The donor’s will should provide for the contingency that named beneficiaries may not survive him. Should this
happen, his estate will be distributed by the Probate Court as intestate property-often contrary to the donor’s wishes.
To avoid this, a donor may name the Share Foundation as a contingent beneficiary.

SPECIAL THANKS
All of us at Share Foundation
would like to take the opportunity
during this season of Thanksgiving
to offer a word of thanks to the
wonderful people at McKay Printing
Services for their generosity in
printing the GOOD NEWS each
month at no charge. Former owners
Lloyd and Terry Pagels and Ken
Kelley began the tradition of
donating the printing of the
newsletter for us in May 1999 and
when new owners Tom and Laurel
Kuczynski purchased the business
in the fall of 2003, they continued it.
Throughout the past five and a half
years, Betty Benner of McKay
Printing has worked on the layout of
the newsletter each month, taking
pride in producing a professional
piece that we are proud to mail to
your home. We offer our deepest
thanks to Tom and Laurel for their
generosity and to Betty for her
caring nature. May God bless them
abundantly! When you offer your
own prayer of thanks on
Thanksgiving Day, say an extra one
for the good people at McKay
