FROM THE DESK OF FATHER BLANEY...
The Leprechaun Hunt© was a great success! Everybody was happy.
And the people who came were very good about not throwing papers
and wrappers on the ground. It made for a quick clean up. Very kindly
people.
There were 5 leprechauns not found. Two of them were within 1 feet
of a newly beaten path but not seen. And two I couldn’t find meself. All
the places look alike. The big one - $1500 – was found. And the big
trip to Ireland was won by Brian Nelson.
And there was a great profit resulting! This is our biggest money
raiser of the year. Many thanks to all the people who came. And many,
many thanks to all the volunteers who helped in so many ways. We
would not be able to have the Leprechaun Hunt© without the many
volunteers. They had a great time along with the hard work. If you
would like to volunteer for next year, call in now to be on the list.
THOUGHTS FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
By Kathleen Kelly
Summer is winding down and it’s time to enjoy life at a slower pace. This summer was a blur of activity with the
Share Classic golf outing, six weeks of summer camp and the 12 th annual Leprechaun Hunt© and the time certainly
went by quickly! During this period of activity, I was blessed with the opportunity to live in one of the homes at
Sharing Meadows to serve as a temporary steward and the experience was delightful.
The villagers and I shared meals, social activities and routine chores like laundry and house cleaning but we found
joy in even the most mundane tasks because we did them together. We laughed over funny movies, played cards and
board games(somehow, the person seated next to me always has a “Draw Four” card to play on me when I get down
to just one card in UNO), tried our hand at fishing in Tucker Lake (the darn fish were so clever they some how
managed to eat the worms right off our hooks before they swam away!), shopped for groceries, enjoyed an occasional
meal out, taking turns at selecting whether it would be pizza, Chinese or perhaps a burger. Meal time at home was
always joyful, full of conversation and sharing and we looked forward to inviting one or two of the other houses to join
us.
Each evening when I would arrive home after work, the table was always set for dinner and the villagers were
waiting to tell me about their day. No matter what dish I cooked, they were appreciative and complimentary (a
welcome change from the years of cooking for my five children because no matter what I prepared, someone didn’t like
it or wanted macaroni and cheese instead!) The affirmation they freely gave to me on a regular basis was something I
joyfully anticipated, deeply appreciated, and never took for granted. Our villagers have a tremendous gift of being able
to affirm others and I was blessed to experience that affirmation on a daily basis.
The community of Sharing Meadows is a good place where God’s presence abounds. Those of us fortunate enough
to live here – even if only for a short time – recognize that goodness and revel in the joy of being affirmed. Like our
name suggests, we love to share with others and all of you are welcome to come to our community to experience the
joy of affirmation. Come for a visit and see for yourself how a loving, Christian community can enrich your life!
CAMP SHARING MEADOWS
Our summer camp was a rousing success with memories for the campers and staff that will last a lifetime. With
the end of another summer program, we are ready to begin the fall season of mini camps and the first one is scheduled
for September 8, 9 and 10. Invitations have been sent out and applications are accepted on a first come, first served
basis. If you didn’t receive an invitation and want to join us, please call Sandy at 219-778-2585 and she will be happy
to send one to you.
Volunteers are also being sought at this time. We need caring people to serve as cooks, nurses and counselors and
we can promise you a meaningful experience that will stay with you forever. If you’ve never volunteered for our camp
before, now is the perfect time to get involved. No experience is necessary, just an open heart and desire to make a
difference in another’s life.
Fall mini camp dates:
Sept. 8-10 Oct. 13-15 Nov. 10-12 Dec. 8-10

MEGA CASH
Thanks to the many people who have clipped the mega cash coupons from the Times newspaper and sent them
to Share Foundation. The Times contest will run through September 30, 2006 with Mega Cash printed in each day’s
issue. Look for the amount that is in each day’s edition at the top of the front page, get your scissors ready and search
the newspaper so you can clip each one for Share Foundation.
Working together, we can collect billions of dollars of Mega Cash to purchase an elegant gift that can be used to
raise funds for Sharing Meadows! Last year, a local charity collected enough Mega Bucks to purchase a car at the
auction and we know we can do the same.
The good ladies of the Share Foundation Service League have agreed to provide drop off places for your Mega
Cash coupons. They will even pick them up if you are unable to drop them off. Just give a call to one of the following
SHARING MEADOWS PRODUCT OF THE MONTH
The Sharing Meadows product of the month for
September is a redwood bird feeder. As fall approaches,
winter can’t be too far behind and the birds will need some
food to eat during the cold, snowy months. The redwood bird
feeders are ideal to hang from a tree or a post and will attract
a colorful array of birds all winter. They sell for a donation of
$10 to Share Foundation and they make beautiful gifts.
Call our office at 219-778-2585 to order your bird feeder
today or stop by the St. Timothy Center Monday through
Friday between the hours of 8:30 and 4:00 to see them in
person. All proceeds benefit the vocational training program
for the Villagers of Sharing Meadows.
LEPRECHAUN HUNT© 2006
After months of planning, the 12 th annual Leprechaun Hunt© is a happy
memory of family and friends, good food, delightful Irish music, and funds
raised for the operation of Sharing Meadows. The sky was blue, the sun
bright and a cool breeze kept the temperature pleasant which was a welcome
relief from the heat and humidity that we suffered through earlier in the
week.
Chef Philippe Joseph from Stones’ Bones in Munster had an enthusiastic
crew who led the cooking to satisfy our hungry guests. They feasted on
barbecued ribs, chicken, sausage, corned beef and cabbage, roasted lamb
prepared by Bruce Ruge, assorted salads and breads. Chuck and Marcia
Forcey served delicious fresh roasted sweet corn and hamburgers and hot dogs
were popular items outside. Zucchini bread topped with fresh berries and
whipped cream satisfied everyone’s sweet tooth and there was plenty of beer,
wine and soft drinks to wash it all down.
The food could be enjoyed while sitting in the St. Timothy Center camp
building or under the tent listening to the strains of Irish music.
Entertainment was provided by the Ploughboys from Chicago and Soltre
with Autumn Rhodes from South Bend and the Doolin clan – Kevin Doolin
and his daughter, Colleen Doolin Lustina. The Villagers performed to
McNamara’s Band with David Ciastko leading the band in the role of
McNamara.
auction.
It was a great family day! The Moonwalk kept the kids busy between
playing the games, and enjoying cotton candy, snow cones and popcorn. The
hay wagons were full the entire day to give our guests a tour of Sharing
Meadows and help them hunt for leprechauns. Some people were successful
in their quest for a leprechaun but even those who didn’t find one of the
elusive elves had a wonderful time. The Leprechaun Hunt© gets better each
year and we look forward to another special day next August!
I SAID A PRAYER FOR YOU TODAY
I said a prayer for you today
And know God must have heard-
I felt the answer in my heart
Although He spoke no word!
I didn’t ask for wealth or fame
I knew you wouldn’t mind
I asked Him to send treasures
Of a far more lasting kind!
MEMORIALS
Memorials are a special way to honor the memory of a loved one or celebrate a special
occasion for ourselves, our family, or our friends. We are grateful for all memorial donations,
large and small, that are received but we want to remind you that our policy is that thank you
letters and acknowledgement cards are not sent for any memorials received that are less than
$10.00 per name. They will be printed in the GOOD NEWS but no cards or letters will be
sent. Due to the increasing cost of paper, postage and time to send cards and letters, it is not
good stewardship to spend the donations you have entrusted to us to fill mailboxes with mail.
Memorial donations of $10.00 or more per name will continue to be handled with a thank
you letter, acknowledgement to family and listing in the newsletter. If you do not require a thank
you letter, please mark the envelope so that we can code your account and we can save the cost
of a letter and use the funds for our programs for other abled people. Thank you for your
understanding!
MEMORIAL DEADLINE
Just a friendly reminder that all memorials are due by the 15 th of each
month in order to be printed in the following month’s GOOD NEWS. For
example, if you want to have a memorial printed in the October issue, your
memorial needs to arrive in our office by September 15 th . Share Foundation
has a deadline to meet as well with our printer and if we do not have your
memorial by the 15 th of each month, your memorial will be delayed an
additional month. Thank you for your understanding!
MARK YOUR CALENDARS
FOR NEXT YEAR’S
FUN FULLED DAY OF FAMILY,
FRIENDS, FOOD AND FUN!!!
I asked that He be near you
At the start of each new day
To grant you health and blessings
And friends to share your way!
I asked for happiness for you
In all things great and small-
But it was for His loving care
I prayed for most of all!
