A Strategy for Success
Focus On The Customer
First Commonwealth customers come from every walk of
life. Whether they are moms or basketball coaches, business
owners or nurses, construction workers or teachers, they
deserve a bank that serves their personal needs. In today’s
challenging economic times, our customers need a financial
institution that is stable and strong—a bank they can count
on to make sound decisions and to avoid the troubles that
have plagued so many other banks across the United States.
In 2008, we evaluated our market, our customers, our
practices and our structure. Our executive leadership team,
along with our talented and committed employees, placed
a renewed emphasis on being the community bank of
choice in western and central Pennsylvania. Rather than
merely creating products and selling them, we looked at
why people use our products and services and what new
products and services would better serve them. By making
it easy for people to do business with First Commonwealth,
we were able to help more of our customers achieve their
financial goals.
Simply put, we care about our customers. We know
their names. We are involved in their communities—
our communities—and schools and cultural programs.
We want our customers and their families to be successful,
and we believe we can help by providing convenient
services that assist them in managing their finances.
This approach to doing business continues to work. In
2008, First Commonwealth welcomed tens of thousands
of new client households, while increasing the number
of services we provide per household. In the end, it all
comes down to earning our customers’ trust and putting
in the time and effort required to build a strong and
mutually beneficial relationship.
“It’s not the big things we do, it’s the 100 small things we
do that make us a successful company,” says Timothy
Nagle, senior vice president for corporate lending. “We
focus on helping businesses feel comfortable with us
and with our bank, and that has resulted in a lot of
success over the years.”
Tim Nagle joined First Commonwealth in 1998 and
was immediately impressed by its commitment to
customer service, a philosophy that dovetailed
perfectly with his own business style. He and his team
focus on strengthening current relationships and
looking for new opportunities.
“I work with talented people,” Tim says. “We make
it our business to demonstrate our commitment to our
customers so they feel confident and secure with us.”
