1.1 Make Improvement Processes and Tools Work for You!

Too often ''heroic'' efforts characterize the daily routines of care-givers,
who often succeed despite internal processes not because of them. The
need to improve the way things get done is clear. Improvement science
offers us many paths to identify, analyze, and implement changes that
facilitate the care-giver’s daily efforts rather than hinder them. This
session will review some of the tools and techniques that have been
successfully employed at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center
to improve clinical support services and highlights specific project
applications that have been incorporated into the daily life of the
facility. Attend and see where waste is hidden within daily activities and
understand how processes are performing using lean tools in
conjunction with rapid cycle tests of change.

1.2 Early Adopters: Putting Data Standards to Work ✫

Attend this session and learn from the pioneering efforts of the Early
Adopters GLN Workgroup formed to create and document the early
adoption of the Global Location Number (GLN) – the GS1
organization identifier data standard endorsed by the Healthcare
Supply Chain Standards Coalition (HSCSC). Organized by members of
the Strategic Marketplace Initiative (SMI), this collaborative workgroup
of industry leaders and organizations has been supported by the
HSCSC in their efforts to develop an adoption process, document that
process, and measure the proper utilization and benefits of the GLN in
day-to-day transactions. The presentation will cover exactly what a
GLN is and does, how to obtain your own GLN, and the vital
information on the workgroup’s progress and lessons learned to date.
It will also provide “how-to” information to take back and begin
promoting and adopting these standards in your own organization.
