1.7 Reforms Open Door to Improved Physician Relations
Clinical Resource Management I
Room: 206
Just when you thought OR costs couldn't be reduced, the U.S.
Government levied financial sanctions on the largest manufacturers of
hip and knee implants. This has influenced orthopedic surgeons on
implant selection further opening the door to leverage physician
relations. It has also paved the way for hospitals to partner with
physicians to establish protocols for better implant contract pricing as
well as share in legal and economic incentives. This session will review
the changing landscape of physician preference item contracting and
how hospitals can improve physician relations by offering legal
incentives. It will also cover creating protocols to address direct-toconsumer
marketing and using key performance indicators to control
and reduce implant costs with evidence-based data.
1.8 Transitioning Medical Logistics to Materials Management
Professional Development I M
Room: 210
All military personnel eventually get out by either retiring or fulfilling
their service obligations. The skills and knowledge that they gain while
they are active make them ideal for civilian healthcare materials
operations. This presentation will focus on translating military skills and
experiences into the framework of the civilian healthcare market. It will
look at three aspects: (1) enlisted personnel and their technical skills,
training, and leadership; (2) officers and their management skills,
training, and leadership; and (3) how civilian healthcare organizations
can best recruit and utilize this trained, dedicated, and results-oriented
pool of innovative and loyal future employees.
