2.5 Linking the Supply Chain with Organizational Goals
Strategic Planning I
Room: 213
Increasingly, hospitals across the country are using technology to
automate various supply chain processes to improve efficiencies and
increase staff productivity. But for Children’s Memorial Hospital in
Chicago, automation was only the first step. By reducing the time staff
spends on order processing, the Supply Chain Management Director
has been able to re-deploy members of his team to other areas of the
hospital, while expanding and enhancing the role of his current
purchasing staff. As a result, the status of the purchasing function
within the hospital has been raised and clinician satisfaction has
improved. Children’s Memorial Hospital has documented over $2
million in savings in areas such as product sourcing, contracting, and
inventory management.
2.6 An Overview of Supply Chain Best Practices
Strategic Planning I
Room: 214
In 2005, Intermountain Healthcare looked for a supply chain executive
outside of the industry who could apply rigorous applications in
managing the over $1 billion non-labor spend of the company. A new
Vice President was hired and given significant freedom to organize a
world class supply chain organization, but with it came the mandate to
save $20 million per year. In this presentation, learn what a worldclass
healthcare supply chain organization looks like and what their
major initiatives are. You will come away with the motivation to look
beyond the normal and will have new industry insights and a list of best
practices that you can apply in your supply chain strategies when you
return to your own organization.
