Increasingly, hospitals across the country are using technology to
automate various supply chain processes to improve efficiencies and
increase staff productivity. But for Children’s Memorial Hospital in
Chicago, automation was only the first step. By reducing the time staff
spends on order processing, the Supply Chain Management Director
has been able to re-deploy members of his team to other areas of the
hospital, while expanding and enhancing the role of his current
purchasing staff. As a result, the status of the purchasing function
within the hospital has been raised and clinician satisfaction has
improved. Children’s Memorial Hospital has documented over $2
million in savings in areas such as product sourcing, contracting, and
inventory management.
