San Antonio Showmen
Meet Reviewing Group
SAN ANTONIO— Behind clcstU door.N, exhibitors
mid members of the San Antonio
Motion Picture AdvLsory and ReviewlnR
Board discussed "matters of public welfare
but without public interest," Mrs. Harold
Oee. president of the advisors and reviewers
group, said last week (20) at the close of
the session.
However, one exhibitor, who requested
nonymlty. .said Mrs. Gee had authorized
him to say: "We were discussing private
business which is of no interest to the public.
It was a get-acquainted luncheon." He
did say that members of the recently formed
San Antonio Motion Picture Exhibitors Ass'n
were Invited to the luncheon. This was the
first Joint meeting of exhibitors and the reviewing
board.
The meeting was attended by Chief of
Police R. D. Allen, and a representative of
the district attorney's office. Alien conferred
at length with Mrs. Gee at the end
of the session. Cooperation of the police
department and members of the reviewing
board was mentioned during the cour.se of
the joint session.
Reviewers and advisors also offered some
sort of proposal to the exhibitors who,
through a spokesman there, postponed acceptance
until the next meeting at least.
Some legal difficulty ruled out immediate
acceptance, the exhibitor spokesman explained.
That the meeting touched on matters of
good taste in motion pictures and advertising
here and its effects on the audience,
there was little doubt.
One exhibitor told the group:
"The exhibitors association meeting admitted
there have been errors. We exhibitors
feel a deep obligation to the public
for its faith and deep trust and to the
parents and children who see movies."
Mrs. Gee referred a reporter to the board's
constitution when asked if its function was
censorship. The board's avowed purpose is
to estimate, evaluate and recommend new
films as they come to this city.
