Everyone is a Member<br />

This bold change inaugurated during the year opened membership<br />

to all 140,000 alumni, giving them access to many<br />

privileges. Although everyone is a member, it is necessary to<br />

activate that membership by signing up online. During the year,<br />

7,678 alumni activated their online profile to be recognized as<br />

a “general member.” Of those who activated their profile, 68<br />

percent had never had a prior relationship with <strong><strong>UC</strong>SD</strong> <strong>Alumni</strong>.<br />

These members receive special event invitations, campus and<br />

alumni news, as well as special discount savings on everything<br />

from local attractions to continuing education programs.<br />

<strong>Annual</strong> gifts are vital to the continued success of <strong>UC</strong> San<br />

Diego. This year, more than 1,600 new Benefactors and Associates<br />

made a gift to <strong><strong>UC</strong>SD</strong> <strong>Alumni</strong>, generating $88,000.<br />

Chancellor’s Associates<br />

Chancellor’s Associate gifts of $1,500 or<br />

more provide the Chancellor with the flexibility<br />

to fund initiatives and opportunities as<br />

they arise, while also supporting ongoing<br />

programs, such as undergraduate scholarships<br />

and faculty achievement awards, to<br />

recognize the creativity and effectiveness of<br />

our extraordinary professors.<br />

This year, Chancellor’s Associates in -<br />

creased giving by 28 percent ($723,655 total<br />

revenue), while increasing donors by 9 percent<br />

(607 donors). Chancellor’s Associates<br />

alumni donors increased by 5 percent, while<br />

Chancellor’s Associates Young <strong>Alumni</strong><br />

(CAYA) increased by 44 percent, or $95,725.<br />

More than half of Chancellor’s Associates<br />

are alumni. These gifts help ignite<br />

the energy, innovation and imagination<br />

that make discovery possible. As the<br />

fastest growing Chancellor’s Associates<br />

segment, Chancellor’s Associates Young<br />

<strong>Alumni</strong>—10 years or less post-graduation—are<br />

helping to build a strong<br />

foundation for future achievement.<br />
