Everyone is a Member
This bold change inaugurated during the year opened membership
to all 140,000 alumni, giving them access to many
privileges. Although everyone is a member, it is necessary to
activate that membership by signing up online. During the year,
7,678 alumni activated their online profile to be recognized as
a “general member.” Of those who activated their profile, 68
percent had never had a prior relationship with UCSD Alumni.
These members receive special event invitations, campus and
alumni news, as well as special discount savings on everything
from local attractions to continuing education programs.
Annual gifts are vital to the continued success of UC San
Diego. This year, more than 1,600 new Benefactors and Associates
made a gift to UCSD Alumni, generating $88,000.

Chancellor’s Associates
Chancellor’s Associate gifts of $1,500 or
more provide the Chancellor with the flexibility
to fund initiatives and opportunities as
they arise, while also supporting ongoing
programs, such as undergraduate scholarships
and faculty achievement awards, to
recognize the creativity and effectiveness of
our extraordinary professors.
This year, Chancellor’s Associates in -
creased giving by 28 percent ($723,655 total
revenue), while increasing donors by 9 percent
(607 donors). Chancellor’s Associates
alumni donors increased by 5 percent, while
Chancellor’s Associates Young Alumni
(CAYA) increased by 44 percent, or $95,725.
More than half of Chancellor’s Associates
are alumni. These gifts help ignite
the energy, innovation and imagination
that make discovery possible. As the
fastest growing Chancellor’s Associates
segment, Chancellor’s Associates Young
Alumni—10 years or less post-graduation—are
helping to build a strong
foundation for future achievement.
