Student Philanthropy
Give. Invest. Gain.
In Fall 2010, the Student Foundation launched
Give. Invest. Gain. (GIG) to replace the previous
iPledge campaign. Funds from the GIG campaign
support continuing student scholarships and build
the Student Foundation Endowment. Students may
direct a portion of their gift to a specific program
on campus, including colleges, academic divisions,
athletics and more.
Non-senior student philanthropy increased by
330 percent with the launch of the Give. Invest.
Gain. campaign, from 97 to 418 donors.
Student Telephone Outreach
If you’ve ever received a call from UC San Diego, chances are a current student is on the
other line. The Telephone Outreach Program, managed by private vendor Ruffalo Cody,
spent 4,624 hours calling 52,154 alumni prospects. This year, student callers raised
$825,673.50 in pledged dollars through the program, with $335,959, or 40 percent,
from 3,319 alumni.
There are three components to every call: Updating contact information, building a relationship
between the alumni and UC San Diego, and raising money for the University. Student
callers frequently answer questions about the latest campus news and invite alumni back to
campus to see its ever-changing landscape. Next time you see “UC San Diego” on your caller
ID, don’t hesitate to pick up the phone and chat with a current Triton.
