PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE | Devonport Magpies
As 2010 draws to a close I take this opportunity
to reflect on what has been an extremely
successful year for the Devonport Football Club.
Despite losing the first three games our boys,
under the leadership of Coach Errol Bourn, have
moulded into a talented and cohesive team with
the single focus of giving their best for the Club
and the wider football community. This dedication
and commitment and a tremendous self and
team belief have resulted in the Devonport playing
off in the Grand final today.
The “boys” have the opportunity today to emulate
the feat of Roland Crosby and his team who won
the old TFL State-wide League Grand Final in
1988, when they soundly defeated Glenorchy.
Errol Bourn and his team have overcome
many hurdles on their way to today’s big
game, defeating Glenorchy, North Hobart and
Launceston and now it is Clarence in the Grand
Final. I take this opportunity to congratulate
Clarence on making it through to their second
Grand Final in a row in the State League and I am
sure football followers will witness an outstanding
game of football, as the two top teams in this
state chase the “Holy Grail”.
On behalf of all members and supporters of
the Devonport Football club I wish Errol Bourn,
his Assistant Coaches Ricky Clarke and Kurt
Heazlewood and our extremely talented 22 players
running on to the ground today every success and
good luck – you have done us all proud!
I also take this opportunity to thank the Coaches
of our other teams for their magnificent efforts
during the past year: Reserves - Dean Cullen; U18
- Gerard Ennis and Dean O’Neill; U17 - Darren
Brooks; U15 - Jamie Smith; and our trainers
Wayne Bolton, Steve O’Neill, Leon Charlesworth,
Teegan Barnett and Peter Sherriff, Property
Manager Ted Smith and game day officials Steve
Predojevic and Tony Bell.
Every week two young teenagers have given up
their Saturdays to be “water boys” for our club
and I refer particularly to Jack White and Jacob
Marshall who epitomize the young people who
are the future of this great club. I also thank our
hard-core group of volunteers who have worked
tirelessly throughout the year undertaking many
roles around the club.
We thank our sponsors for their support and
we look forward with great enthusiasm to their
continued involvement in 2011. We acknowledge
the support of: Adam Brooks’ Total Performance
Sports, Cambridge Painting Services, Terry and
Joan Matthews, The Eli, Passport Surf, 7AD,
Petuna Seafoods, Carpet One, Lance and Jan Cox,
Neil Wilkinson Pty Ltd and Sea FM.
Go the Pies!
