GRASS ROOTS | Regional Wrap up 2010
There are still 4 more regional and community
football grand finals to be contested this
weekend. Hopefully, in the near future we will
see Tasmanian football grand finals played
in a hierarchy so that all footy fans can enjoy
community, regional and state finals on
consecutive weekends.
Northern Tasmanian Football League - Arch rivals
Latrobe and Ulverstone go head to head. During
the roster Ulverstone had the edge over Latrobe,
but the Demons should come into the final full of
confidence after a close win in the second semi
final. This should be a close one and will go down
to the wire.
Southern Football League - New Norfolk are the
hot tip having had a rest last week while Dodges
Ferry had to earn their place in a very physical
game against Huonville. The result could very
well come down to which key forward gives their
team the best outcome. If Michael Thompson
(New Norfolk) and Simon Lampkin (Dodges Ferry)
can exert their influence then this may settle the
title in what should be an enthralling contest.
Darwin - First time coach and ex-Tassie Devil,
Tim MacMichael, leads the Somerset boys in
the grand final against Natone. Natone will be
favourites after having a week off, but the good
form of the Somerset boys right through the final
series will be a concern.
Old Scholars - St Virgils won a very hard fought
preliminary final against University for their crack
at Hutchins. Despite a clean sweep in their games
this season, Hutchins will not have it all their way
as St Virgils have some very experienced finals
campaigners with the likes of Leigh Post, Jason
Britten and ex Carlton draftee Adrian Burdon.
