FELLOW SHOWMEN:
By this time, you are doubtless familiar with the purpose of
BOXOFFICE'S JIM MOTE FUND. From an initial contribution of a
few dollars, this fund to rebuild the burned-out theatre of
a typical small town exhibitor has swelled to a substantial
sum.
Heretofore, all contributions have been on an individual level.
Today, however, it gives me great pleasure to announce a method
whereby contributions can be put on an industry-wide basis for
the first time.
On March 31, Monogram will launch the STEVE BROIDY 25TH
ANNIVERSARY DRIVE, with a percentage of all billings donated
to BOXOFFICE'S JIM MOTE FUND. Every exhibitor booking Monogram
product during this period will be contributing to this worthy
cause.
In my twenty-five years in the industry, I have seen many sales
drives launched in honor of various company executives. To my
knowledge, however, this is the first time any such drive has
been dedicated to an exhibitor temporarily in financial distress,
but otherwise so typical of the thousands who form the backbone
of the industry as it stands today.
For years, the motion picture world has been noted for its
generous appeals for help of all lands from individuals or groups
beyond its scope. Now the time has come for us to take care of
our own. It is my earnest hope that this drive for BOXOFFICE'S
JIM MOTE FUND, will be but the first of many future efforts
sponsored by all the distribution companies, for similar worthwhile
humanitarian purposes within the industry itself.
And now, on the eve of the drive, I wish to extend my thanks and
appreciation to the entire Monogram organization, and to the
thousands of exhibitors everywhere who are already cooperating
in every manner possible to insure the success of this tremendous
undertaking.
