Performing Data | Monika Fleischmann + Wolfgang Strauss

Performing Data is a review of Monika Fleischmann´s and Wolfgang Strauss´artistic body of work and a catalogue of their exhibition in Poland 2011. It presents works from Virtual Reality (Home of the Brain) up to Mixed Reality (Murmuring Fields) from Fluid Interface (Liquid Views) up to Floating Interface (Medienfluss) and texts by Ryszard W. Kluszczynski, Derrick de Kerkhove, Luca Farulli. Monika Fleischmann and Wolfgang Strauss from the German Fraunhofer research institute show us an intersection of the body and immaterial digital data. Immersion in data flow causes productive moments of disturbance and suspension, and consequently – a feeling of real physical presence. Fleischmann, Monika; Strauss, Wolfgang: Performing Data | Performowanie danych. National Centre for Culture, Warszawa 2011 in collaboration with Laznia CCArt, Gdańsk, Poland 2011 ISBN 978-83-61587-55-2 (en/pl) http://artline-southbaltic.eu/de/event/performing-data/

BERLIN – CYBER CITY (1989-91)
BERLIN – CYBER CITY (1989-91)
Unaocznia
Berlin International Broadcasting Fair w 1991 r.
BERLIN – CYBER CITY (1989-91)
Berlin after the fall of the Wall. A virtual walk is, leading us deep inside the city. The
walk understood as a movement of both body and mind is the interface / metaphor
for travelling with a finger over the map. The traveller discovers fragments of Berlin’s
history with a finger sensor over an aerial photograph displayed on a table. The virtual
model of Berlin presents layers of past, present and future of the city exemplified by
the Potsdamer Platz: Nazi times, Stasi times, and, too, a possible future. The installation
as a social sculpture allows for the once estranged citizens of the divided city to
meet each other and share their memories at the table, which became an interface/
symbol of common discourse. Deutsche Telekom displayed the interactive table at the
Berlin International Broadcasting Fair in 1991. It was besieged by viewers. By contrast,
the Mayor of Berlin was not interested in the civic participation, although it is about
the future of the city.
