Norfolk Shrine Club
The Norfolk Shriners, Simcoe. “The small group,
with a BIG Heart”
By the time you read this report 2010 will be [well
remembered] history.
At the spring ceremonial in Kitchener we were able to
field 6 new members, a number which we hope to meet
or beat for next spring.
The dune bugs have attended many of the parades this
year, including Toronto. Unfortunately several of our
fellow Nobles are not yet retired so the turn out varies.
We were able to rejuvenate an unused buggy this year so
we now have five of them, Plus “The Boot”. This,
together with Noble Brent Smiths Jeep, Noble Ron
Collis’s WW2 Jeep, Noble Eric Jensens 1968 Cadillac,
Noble Bob Thorntons 1984 Lincoln, and Noble Ken
Beckett’s Vintage Jaguar kit car, should give us a large
presence in future parades.
Later last year four Nobles drove to Erie Pennsylvania
for a young man to have an assessment for ongoing care
to his feet, I would like to thank Noble Rick McCall for
loaning us a suitable vehicle for this trip.
The young man is slated for surgery in January 2011.
Three of our members having attained the ripe young
age of 80 were given life memberships. Noble Don
Mckee. Noble Gord Franklin, and Noble Rod Smith.
Suitable engraved plaques were obtained by Noble
Wayne Brown and presented at our installation meeting
in December.
At that meeting Noble Gord Crandell was to have been
sworn in as our president, but he didn’t turn up. So the
task was eventually done in the London temple on the
17th December
Noble Bob Thornton was sworn in as Vice president,
and yours truly, Noble Barry Mitton was sworn in as
second vice. It serves me right for being absent when the
nominations / elections took place.
Noble Eric Jensen is our secretary. Noble’s Auby Cox,
John Johnson, Wayne Brown, and Reid Bannister. Are
director’s. Noble’s Peter McEown, and Don McKee.
Are our auditer’s. Noble Reid Bannister, is our parade
chairman.
AND NOW FOR A LITTLE
FRIENDLY ARM TWISTING
At the designated meeting in October, it was brought up
that the Temple is losing its catering allure due to the
chairs not being very comfortable. It is important that
the Temple be able to compete with other venues, as this
income is vital to keeping things going .We need about
200 new / better chairs at a cost of roughly $75 to $100
each.
This is a considerable lump to have to delete from the
building fund, so several of the Norfolk Shriners having
calculated that there are about 64 clubs / units are proposing.
“That each group be prepared to dip into their respective
beer funds, and stump up the money for one or more
chairs”.
Having checked the status of our empty beer can fund,
we made a donation of $200, and double dog dare the
rest of you to do the same.
Any section that is flush enough to buy more than two
chair’s, gets bragging rights for as long as they wish.
Wishing all Fellow Nobles a prosperous, safe and enjoyable
