Festival Club 40 years & never been paid Rodger Fox’s Wellington Jazz Orchestra Aotearoa/New Zealand jazz Clairy Browne & the Bangin’ Rackettes Australia soul rock n roll Fresh off the back of SXSW and a headline tour of the USA, Clairy Browne & the Bangin’ Rackettes, roll into New Plymouth with a rousing and rambunctious concoction of soul, surf and rhythm n’ blues, ideally matched to blow your socks off! 2013 has already been a mammoth year for the band, following the prodigious success of their debut album, Baby Caught the Bus reaching number 66 on the US iTunes charts, and their single Love Letter featuring in a hugely popular Heineken ad. In February, the band was signed to the prestigious Vanguard label, followed by a twenty-six stop North American tour from Arizona to Alabama. Their live show is an immersive experience from tough, hip hop tinged soul, to heart-wrenching doo-wop, all delivered with Clairy’s big soul voice, the Rackettes lush vocal harmonies, huge horns and a forceful rhythm section. Supremo jazz trombonist, Rodger Fox has led his nationally recognised big band, for 40 years, featuring the cream of the capital city’s jazz talent. Sizzling ensemble playing, stunning soloists and the desire to give people a good time through music - this is the Wellington Jazz Orchestra. Celebrating the musical history of Rodger Fox, his legendary big band celebrates its 40th anniversary with a very special concert featuring the superb vocalists David Feehan and Erna Ferry. With the full big band sound and 19 musicians on stage, playing the music that made the big band unique when it first assembled at the Wellington Musicians Clubrooms in 1973, this will be a hot and night of jazz at the Mayfair Festival Club.
