This section presents CARE Nepal’s project
achievements grouped according to clusters. However,
there are several projects that have their area of work
dispersed among two or three clusters. For example,
the overall management of CHUNAUTI and CORE Polio
projects falls under the Janakpur Cluster, but both of
them also work in areas that are under the management
of the Bharatpur Cluster (Rupendehi for CHUNAUTI and
Nawalparasi for CORE Polio). Similarly, though SAKCHAM
is managed by the Bharatpur Cluster, two of its working
districts, Mahottari and Sarlahi, fall under the Janakpur
cluster. The SAGUN project is dispersed throughout
the country while being managed by the Doti Cluster.
In such cases, the overall achievement of projects is
presented under the cluster which has the responsibility
of managing them. Similarly, the Monitoring of Pro
Policy of Ministry of Health and Population, a project
conducted by CARE Nepal, with the assistance of
Research Triangle Institute (RTI) has carried out surveys
in 13 districts to measure the impact of the free
health care policy on services provided by the Nepal
government in a phase wise manner.
Meeting the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) is
a primary focus for all of CARE Nepal’s program. The
MDGs were developed out of the eight chapters of
the United Nations Millennium Declaration, signed in
September 2000. The achievement of projects from
each cluster is shown as projects’ contribution to
meeting the eight MDG goals:
1. Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger
2. Achieve universal primary education
3. Promote gender equality and empower women
4. Reduce child mortality
5. Improve maternal health
6. Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria, and other diseases
7. Ensure environmental sustainability
8. Develop a global partnership for development
