The Political Scenario:
Emerging priorities and CARE Nepal’s role

CARE Nepal has been working towards enhancing awareness
among poor, vulnerable and socially excluded groups,
particularly women, about the political development that
is taking place in Nepal. This process has created space
for women to engage with the political change. After the
Constituent Assembly (CA) elections were announced, CARE
Nepal focused on increasing awareness on the CA process.
During the CA elections, CARE Nepal mobilized women as
both voters and candidates. Working with local stakeholders
like women’s groups, community based organizations
(CBOs) and the media; CARE Nepal has been carrying out
activities at community, group, district and regional levels.
These activities have involved raising awareness through
discussions and dialogues and using women’s groups as
forums for sharing information related to the political
process and its ramifications

After the formation of the CA, 14 constitutional committees were formed around core thematic
and development priority areas. In collaboration with National Forum for Women’s Rights Concern
(NFOWRC), Jagaran Nepal, and a range of other civil society organizations, CARE Nepal facilitated
the submission of pertinent issues to these constitutional committees. These issues focused
