The Political Scenario:<br />
Emerging priorities and <strong>CARE</strong> <strong>Nepal</strong>’s role<br />

<strong>CARE</strong> <strong>Nepal</strong> has been working towards enhancing awareness<br />
among poor, vulnerable and socially excluded groups,<br />
particularly women, about the political development that<br />
is taking place in <strong>Nepal</strong>. This process has created space<br />
for women to engage with the political change. After the<br />
Constituent Assembly (CA) elections were announced, <strong>CARE</strong><br />
<strong>Nepal</strong> focused on increasing awareness on the CA process.<br />
During the CA elections, <strong>CARE</strong> <strong>Nepal</strong> mobilized women as<br />
both voters and candidates. Working with local stakeholders<br />
like women’s groups, community based organizations<br />
(CBOs) and the media; <strong>CARE</strong> <strong>Nepal</strong> has been carrying out<br />
activities at community, group, district and regional levels.<br />
These activities have involved raising awareness through<br />
discussions and dialogues and using women’s groups as<br />
forums for sharing information related to the political<br />
process and its ramifications<br />

After the formation of the CA, 14 constitutional committees were formed around core thematic<br />
and development priority areas. In collaboration with National Forum for Women’s Rights Concern<br />
(NFOWRC), Jagaran <strong>Nepal</strong>, and a range of other civil society organizations, <strong>CARE</strong> <strong>Nepal</strong> facilitated<br />
the submission of pertinent issues to these constitutional committees. These issues focused<br />
