Houses - Secondary Campus O’Brien House Named after Mother Antonio O’Brien—Founding Order – St John of God O'Brien House celebrated the Feast Day of St John, 8th March, the patron saint of the St John of God Sisters. O'Brien House is named after Sister Antonio O'Brien from the St John of God order, our founding religious order. In 1908 Sr Antonia was the one of the first sisters to establish St Mary’s Primary School. On the day, a Mass was led by Father Matt in the Nulungu Chapel. During lunch O’Brien 1 sold Soda Stream soft drink to raise money for CARITAS and currently students are developing a crest to represent our House. In the photo below right, Yasmine Ruttiman is holding a clay plaque to celebrate the occasion. A first for St Mary's College, we look forward to the other House Masses to be celebrated on the feast day of each of the Founders. RICE HOUSE named after Blessed Edmund Rice, founder of the Christian Brothers It is evident that he House spirit is strong and developing at St Mary’s College. The House Swimming carnival this term enabled students to identify with and support their Houses, students dressed in House colours and cheered on their teams. Houses - Secondary Campus Barbier House Named after Sr Euphraise Barbier, founder of Our Lady of the Missions sisters Ward House Sr Angela Slattery visited us in Week 10 – Sr Angela, a Loreto Sister was on the staff at St Mary’s Primary in the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. On the Secondary Campus Sr Angela spent time in RE classes sharing the Loreto Sisters’ story and talked about her time in Broome as a teacher at St Mary's. Sr Angela also spent time with students from Ward House talking with them and strengthening their connection with the Loreto Sisters. On the Primary Campus Sr Angela visited classrooms and talked to students. She also visited the Reading Recovery Centre, our Special Education Network Centre and the Art Room.
