Year 7 Camp
During Week 6, our Year 7 students attended the Broome Camp School for the 2013 Year 7 Camp. The students
had a wonderful time participating in a range of challenging activities. The students’ physical endurance and relationship
skills were tested throughout the 3 day camp, as they worked together in teams to negotiate obstacles and solve
problems. Camp activities included;
Raft building
Milk crate wall building
Snake Handling
PVC water relay
Treasure Hunt
Low ropes course
Prusiking (knot making)
Astro Tour
Beach Games
Mass
Wildlife Park Visit
The students also had opportunities for free time, where they were able to sit together and reflect on their transition
into secondary school, or participate in sporting activities such as basketball, cricket, soccer and pool-volleyball.
Each day of the camp was action-packed, beginning with a 6:00am run along Cable Beach (Miss Sam set a cracking
pace), and then moving into team rotation activities after breakfast. The last night on camp was particularly special,
with the students enjoying a tasty barbeque on Cable Beach, watching the sunset and exploring the rock pools at low
tide.
The conduct and attitude of the Year 7 students on camp were excellent, and the success of the camp is a measure of
their respect and enthusiasm. It was a privilege to spend time with such a positive, supportive group of young
students. In addition to the students, a number of people deserve recognition for assisting with the camp: Fr. Matt for
a special Friday Mass service, Miss Jo for her engaging presentation and all the St Mary’s staff who contributed their
time and effort over the 3 days. Finally, special mention must go to Brad, Carmel and all of the wonderful staff at
Broome Camp School for making our stay such an enjoyable experience.
