Year 6 Fundraising Disco<br />

Fundraising for Project Compassion<br />

On Friday March 22 nd Year 6 organised a school disco to<br />

raise money for Caritas Project Compassion.<br />

It was a great experience for the Year 6 students to raise<br />

money for charity. The Year 6 students put in a lot of effort.<br />

We couldn’t have done it without the approval of Mrs Margaret<br />

Valentine and all the help from the parents and teachers. At<br />

first while decorating it looked like the disco had already<br />

ended but as we improved with our decorating skills it looked<br />

fantastic.<br />

Some people had cameras and were filming people dancing.<br />

A lot of people thought this was great. This encouraged<br />

people to dance more. Some children were screaming and<br />

playing chasey but this was handled well by the speakers on<br />

stage and it stopped immediately. We got great comments<br />

from children about the music played on the night of the disco.<br />

People wore some very fancy clothes, there was a fair bit of<br />

makeup seen and there was also a lot of bling.<br />

In the lower primary group, the best dancer was Marley<br />

Weeding PPS and also the best dressed was Lulu Smith PPE.<br />

For the upper group the best dressed was Holy Newton from<br />

5E and the best dancer was Lydon McKenna from 4S.<br />

Congratulations to the winners!<br />

In the end we raised just over $2000. That is an amazing<br />

achievement for <strong>St</strong> Mary’s!<br />

Overall the disco was a fun night enjoyed by lots of students<br />

and guests who attended. Thank you to all the people who<br />

made this night happen.<br />

Year 12 Perth Perspectives Art Exhibition<br />

Year 12 students studying 3A/B Visual Art travelled to Perth on<br />

Sunday March 17 th to view the Perspectives Exhibition at the WA<br />

National Gallery. The students participated in an Art Analysis<br />

workshop then viewed the Photography of New York from<br />

MOMA, and spent time in the Perspectives Exhibition. The<br />

students were able to experience first-hand the high level of Art<br />

that is expected in this course. Also the students realised that<br />

seeing original work is so different from looking at a reproduction<br />

in a book.<br />
