Primary Swimming Carnival
The Annual Primary House Swimming Carnival was held
at the Broome Recreational and Aquatic Centre on the
15 th March. Students had been attending early morning
swimming sessions twice a week for several weeks
beforehand to train for this event. These sessions were
aimed at improving the students’ stroke technique and
general fitness and the dedication and hard work really
paid off. Each year level also attended sessions at the
pool in order to do time trials and go over the correct
finishing and turning requirements for each event.
The Carnival was a huge success, with all of the
students competing, cheering and spectating in the very
best of spirits. Sports carnivals like these would not be
possible without the help and support of fellow staff
members as well as all of the parent helpers. These
parent helpers gave up a whole day of their time to help
out doing vital jobs like timing, judging, and marshalling
and it was great to see them displaying such great St
Mary’s College community spirit.
Congratulations to all competitors for trying their hardest
and doing their best. On the day 6 school records were
broken: Elijah Neesham broke the Year 6 50m Freestyle
Boys with 35.78 seconds; he also broke the 25 m
Butterfly with 18.31 seconds. Daniel Ralph broke the
Year 5 boys 25m Butterfly with a swim of 22.15 seconds
and his brother Nathan Ralph in Year 3 broke 3 records:
the 25m Freestyle in 19.90 seconds, the 50m freestyle in
44.50 seconds, and the 25m Breaststroke in 26.03
seconds. Well done!
It was a very close contest all day between Barbier
House and O’Brien House, with Barbier eventually
coming out on top and winning the Swimming Carnival
