Two Boarders report from the Residential College
My name is Jannen Spry-Wiggan I come from Derby but all of my family come from One Arm Point
and Pendar Bay. I spend a lot of my holidays at One Arm Point with my dad and his family. We go
hunting, fishing, camping and do a lot of spear gun diving.
I first came from Derby to Broome on a plane to attend St Mary’s school. I am now living at the
Broome Residential College. Living at the college is fun because I have lots of fun laughing, telling
jokes with all my mates. We muck around at night playing games and we have our own basketball
team. Some times I don’t go home on the weekends because every Saturday morning I play for the under
15’s football team for the Saints we haven’t lost a game yet. It’s a great team who play together
and still have fun.
This is my second year here at St Mary’s school and I enjoy being here because this is a good school
where I can learn. We have our own Football Academy where we go on trips to play against other
teams from different schools. It’s pretty exciting going to different towns in the Kimberly and just
hanging out with the boys. We always have a good time playing football. The men who run the
Academy are great guys and help us out a lot.
Imran Paddy
My name is Imran Paddy and I come from
Warmun (Turkey Creek). I flew from Warmun
to Broome, when I first got to the Residential
College I was very happy. I was very confident
I would make friends and I did!
Two days later I went to St. Mary’s College and everybody was friendly to me. St. Mary’s College is
fun! There are lots of subjects there. My favourite subjects are Metal Technology, Health and Phys Ed,
Religion and English. They also have the Football Academy! We get to go around the Kimberly and
Port Hedland to compete in football matches.
The Residential College is fun as well! Every body gets to go on camps and visit other schools around
the Kimberly! The food there is delicious and healthy and they also have Foxtel! We have Saturday
football matches and I play for PCYC Saints. At the moment we have won our first three games and I
hope we will win the grand finals. It was worth the hard work to win our games.
Even though I enjoy staying in Broome I do miss my family and friends and I can’t wait to see them all
on the holidays.
