College Assemblies in Term 2.
Remembering Anzac Day
This year Anzac Day fell in the school holidays. So, on the first assembly
day in Term Two, Wednesday, April 30 th , both the Primary and
the Secondary campuses of St Mary’s College joined together in the
undercover area of the Secondary College to commemorate the anniversary
of the first major military action fought by the Australian and
New Zealand Army Corps.
The students listened to our guest speaker, Ted Davies of the British
Army, who has been the secretary to the Broome RSL, speak about the
bravery and courage of Australian soldiers and the sacrifice they made
for our country in all the wars they fought in.
The students stood silently as the Ode was recited and the Last Post
was played. Students then honoured the fallen men and women with a
minute’s silent reflection. The bugle then played The Rouse after
which everyone repeated, “Lest we forget.”

Students were dismissed to their classrooms having paid their respects
to the soldiers who died for their country.
Primary School Assemblies
The children in Pre-Primary have been studying fairytales all term. This theme has been integrated into all learning
areas and class activities. We have focused on size comparisons, ordinal numbers and story structure. Our buddy class
5/6 MF has worked with PPA through lots of activities. To conclude this topic we shared our assembly with them by
presenting Goldilocks and the Three Bears in both Aboriginal English and Standard Australian English. The children
all spoke clearly into the microphone and presented themselves well to the audience. The assembly was lots of fun and
enjoyed by the school.
