In our classrooms ... Questacon Smart Moves is a travelling outreach program promoting cutting edge research, new ideas and entrepreneurship in science, engineering and technology. On Monday 19 th May all the secondary students attended one hour sessions involving multimedia, interactive displays and informative discussion. We learnt about cutting edge ideas in Sports Science involving AFL and snow sports as well as shark protection, robotics and inventions by young people. We saw students trying to recreate the escape in the movie ‘Chicken Run‛ using rubber chickens rubber gloves, umbrellas and sling shots. We also simulated computers games which rely on body movement. The talks encourage young people to get involved in Science and Technology and to be creative and innovative. Most importantly it was lots of fun and interesting. In our classrooms... Esah Coffin working with Pre Primary student Year 11 and 12 Early Childhood Studies. Cassia Goodwin assisting students stirring the mixture The Yr 11 and 12 girls have been looking at language development in children aged 0 - 6 years. As part of their studies the girls designed a language activity to do with the pre primary children. Yr 11 and 12 Early Childhood Studies students and their teacher Miss Gemma, have visited Miss Lisa's Pre Primary classroom and worked with the students using their language activities to improve language skills. The Pre Primary class visited the Secondary Campus Home Economics centre to work with the Early Childhood Studies students making gingerbread men. The pre primary students, following the instructions given by the older students, helped with mixing the ingredients, cutting out and decorating the gingerbread men.
