PART l - GENERAL<br />
1.1 Related Documents<br />
A. General provisions <strong>of</strong> the Contract,<br />
including General <strong>and</strong> Supplementary<br />
Conditions <strong>and</strong> General Requirements,<br />
apply to work <strong>of</strong> this section.<br />
1.2 Summary<br />
A. This section shall include all<br />
materials, equipment <strong>and</strong> labor<br />
necessary for the installation <strong>of</strong><br />
steel ro<strong>of</strong> deck in accordance with<br />
this specification <strong>and</strong> design<br />
drawings.<br />
B. Related work specified elsewhere.<br />
1. Requirements for structural deck<br />
supports, field painting, firepro<strong>of</strong>ing,<br />
ro<strong>of</strong> sumps, flashings,<br />
drains, collars, gutters, downspouts,<br />
insulation <strong>and</strong> other<br />
miscellaneous items are<br />
specified elsewhere.<br />
1.3. Submittals<br />
A. General: Submit each item in this<br />
section according to the conditions<br />
<strong>of</strong> the contract <strong>and</strong> Division 1<br />
Specification Section.<br />
B. Product Data: Submit manufacturers'<br />
specifications/installation<br />
instructions for each steel ro<strong>of</strong> deck<br />
type <strong>and</strong> specified accessories.<br />
C. Shop Drawings: Submit ro<strong>of</strong> deck<br />
placement drawings showing layout<br />
for each type <strong>of</strong> deck, anchorage<br />
details, sump pans, cut openings<br />
<strong>and</strong> accessories.<br />
D. Welder certification signed by<br />
contractor certifying that welders<br />
comply with requirements specified<br />
under "Quality Assurance", or if<br />
mechanical fasteners are used,<br />
certification from the manufacturer<br />
evidencing compliance <strong>of</strong> mechanical<br />
fasteners with design requirements<br />
based upon comprehensive<br />
testing.<br />
1.4 Quality Assurance<br />
A. Codes <strong>and</strong> St<strong>and</strong>ards-Comply<br />
with provisions <strong>of</strong> the following<br />
unless otherwise indicated.<br />

(AWS) D1.3 Structural Welding<br />
Code/Sheet Metal.<br />
3. <strong>Steel</strong> <strong>Deck</strong> Institute (SDI) Design<br />
Manual, latest edition.<br />
B. Certify that each welder has satisfactorily<br />
passed AWS qualification<br />
test for the welding process<br />
involved, <strong>and</strong>, if applicable, has<br />
undergone recertification.<br />
1.5 Delivery, Storage<br />
<strong>and</strong> H<strong>and</strong>ling<br />
A. Protect steel deck from corrosion,<br />
deformation, <strong>and</strong> other damage<br />
during delivery, storage <strong>and</strong><br />
h<strong>and</strong>ling.<br />
B. If ground storage is needed, the<br />
deck bundles must be stored <strong>of</strong>f the<br />
ground, with one end elevated to<br />
provide drainage. Bundles must be<br />
protected against condensation<br />
with a ventilated waterpro<strong>of</strong> covering.<br />
Bundles must be stacked so<br />
there is no danger <strong>of</strong> tipping,<br />
sliding, rolling, shifting or material<br />
damage. Bundles must be periodically<br />
checked for tightness <strong>and</strong><br />
retightened as necessary (so wind<br />
cannot loosen sheets) to prevent<br />
damage caused by the wind.<br />
C. <strong>Deck</strong> bundles placed on the building<br />
frame must always be placed near<br />
a main supporting beam at a<br />
column or wall. In no case are the<br />
bundles to be placed on unbolted<br />
frames or on unattached <strong>and</strong><br />
unbridged joists. The structural<br />
frame must be properly braced to<br />
receive the bundles.<br />
