KENTUCKY ASSOCIATION OF NURSING
STUDENTS (KANS)
Kentucky Association of Nursing Students is a pre-professional organization for pre-nursing and
nursing students enrolled in Kentucky accredited diploma, associate, and baccalaureate degree
programs. KANS is a constituent member of the National Student Nurses Association (NSNA).
Since taking office in October of 2013 the KANS Board has been working on planning for the
2014 KANS Conference. This year’s conference will be held October 9 – 11 at the Center for
Courageous Kids in Scottsville, KY. Some of the topics being planned for Conference include:
KANS hopes faculty from across the state will support nursing students’ attendance at this year’s
Conference as the aim is to tie together didactic education, clinical education, professionalism
and life-long learning. The theme this year “Oh, The Places You KANS Go in Nursing”
April 4 – 9, 2014, the KANS Board of Directors traveled to Nashville, TN for the NSNA Annual
Convention where they gained exposure to a variety of different topics in nursing, attended
the House of Delegates meetings, listened to resolutions hearings, held a state board meeting,
participated in fundraising and even participated in a 5K fun-run fundraiser for the Foundation
of the National Student Nurses’ Association.
In October, 2013, KANS completed their first project of the year at the Health Occupations of
Today Expo in Somerset Kentucky. They were able to speak to hundreds of high school students
from all across Kentucky about nursing, professionalism and the benefits of a career in nursing.
