KENTUCKY ASSOCIATION OF NURSING<br />
STUDENTS (KANS)<br />
<strong>Kentucky</strong> <strong>Association</strong> of Nursing Students is a pre-professional organization for pre-nursing and<br />
nursing students enrolled in <strong>Kentucky</strong> accredited diploma, associate, and baccalaureate degree<br />
programs. KANS is a constituent member of the National Student <strong>Nurses</strong> <strong>Association</strong> (NSNA).<br />
Since taking office in October of 2013 the KANS Board has been working on planning for the<br />
<strong>2014</strong> KANS Conference. This year’s conference will be held October 9 – 11 at the Center for<br />
Courageous Kids in Scottsville, KY. Some of the topics being planned for Conference include:<br />

KANS hopes faculty from across the state will support nursing students’ attendance at this year’s<br />
Conference as the aim is to tie together didactic education, clinical education, professionalism<br />
and life-long learning. The theme this year “Oh, The Places You KANS Go in Nursing”<br />
April 4 – 9, <strong>2014</strong>, the KANS Board of Directors traveled to Nashville, TN for the NSNA Annual<br />
<strong>Convention</strong> where they gained exposure to a variety of different topics in nursing, attended<br />
the House of Delegates meetings, listened to resolutions hearings, held a state board meeting,<br />
participated in fundraising and even participated in a 5K fun-run fundraiser for the Foundation<br />
of the National Student <strong>Nurses</strong>’ <strong>Association</strong>.<br />
In October, 2013, KANS completed their first project of the year at the Health Occupations of<br />
Today Expo in Somerset <strong>Kentucky</strong>. They were able to speak to hundreds of high school students<br />
from all across <strong>Kentucky</strong> about nursing, professionalism and the benefits of a career in nursing.<br />
