Wells Fargo New Year’s Classic.<br />

The Wildcats, who recorded their most complete win <strong>of</strong> the season<br />

so far, continued their hot shooting, but connecting on 46.9 percent<br />

(30-<strong>of</strong>-64) <strong>of</strong> their shots from the field. <strong>Kentucky</strong> had a<br />

season-high nine three-pointers in the game. The Wildcats had a<br />

season-high 19 assists in the game.<br />

Ormerod’s game-high 17 points came on a season-high four threepointers<br />

and a 5-<strong>of</strong>-6 clip from the free-throw line to complement<br />

seven assists - one shy <strong>of</strong> her career high, five rebounds and three<br />

steals in 33 minutes <strong>of</strong> action. Junior guard Samantha Mahoney followed<br />

in the scoring column with 15 points and junior center Sarah<br />

Elliott added 14 points and five rebounds. With one block, she moved<br />

into a tie for second place all-time on UK’s career blocks list.<br />

Senior forward/center Jennifer Humphrey led a strong post<br />

presence for the Wildcats, who out-scored Kent State 36-16 in<br />

points in the paint. <strong>Kentucky</strong> won the battle <strong>of</strong> the boards by 16<br />

(45-29) and exhibited a tenacious presence on the <strong>of</strong>fensive<br />

glass. The Cats out-scored the Golden Flashes 15-4 in secondchance<br />

After two ties and eight lead changes in the first 17 minutes <strong>of</strong> the<br />

game, <strong>Kentucky</strong> finally found its rhythm by outscoring Memphis 41-<br />

17 in the second half on its way to an 86-51 win in the Wells Fargo<br />

New Year’s Classic.<br />

Junior center Sarah Elliott, who was named to the All-Classic<br />

Team, led all scorers with 18 points while senior forward/center<br />

Jennifer Humphrey added 10 points and a game-high 12 rebounds<br />

for her 10th career and second double-double this season. Sophomore<br />

forward Jenn’e Jackson followed with a career-high 14 points<br />

as UK shot a season-high 53.0 percent (35-<strong>of</strong>-66) from the floor.<br />

The Wildcats, who won their sixth consecutive game by 26 or<br />

more points, trailed most <strong>of</strong> the first half as the Tigers, who<br />

entered the game shooting just 36.1 percent from the floor, blistered<br />

the nets at 50.0 percent (15-<strong>of</strong>-30). The Cats held Memphis<br />

to just four field goals and 16.7 percent (4-<strong>of</strong>-24) from the floor in<br />

the second half.<br />

Three players - Samantha Mahoney, Ormerod and Jenny Pfeiffer<br />

finished with eight points while Chante’ Bowman and Lydia Watkins<br />

added six each. All 11 players scored at least two points in the winning<br />

effort. UK won the rebounding battle 39-32 and has won the<br />

battle <strong>of</strong> the boards in all but two games this season.<br />

Senior forward/center Jennifer Humphrey notched her second<br />

consecutive double-double with 11 points and a season-high 16<br />

rebounds and <strong>Kentucky</strong> opened the new year with a resounding 77-<br />

45 win over Texas-Pan American in Memorial Coliseum. Senior<br />

guard Jenny Pfeiffer led all scorers with 19 points, including four<br />

three-pointers.<br />

The Wildcats, who had trouble pulling away from the feisty<br />

Texas-Pan American squad, finally went on a 22-10 run spanning<br />

both halves to take a 44-27 lead in their seventh consecutive win.<br />

Junior guard Samantha Mahoney scored 10 <strong>of</strong> the 22 points during<br />

the run. <strong>Kentucky</strong> was forced to overcome a tough shooting night<br />

as the Wildcats connected on just 32.4 percent (11-<strong>of</strong>-34) in the<br />

first half and 40 percent (28-<strong>of</strong>-70) for the game.<br />

Mahoney added 15 points in the winning effort to eclipse the 900-<br />

point mark for her career, while junior center Sarah Elliott added 13.<br />

Elliott and Humphrey led a key post presence that out-rebounded<br />

UTPA by 14 (48-34). The Cats out-scored the Lady Broncs 36-20 in<br />

points in the paint and 18-1 in second-chance opportunities. Senior<br />

guard Nastassia Alcius led UK with a season-high four assists.<br />

Junior guard Samantha Mahoney scored a game-high 19 points<br />

and junior center Sarah Elliott added 16 as <strong>Kentucky</strong> held <strong>of</strong>f a late<br />

South Carolina charge to post a 59-55 Southeastern Conference<br />

opening win over the Gamecocks. The Cats, who won their eighth<br />

consecutive game, played in front <strong>of</strong> a season-high 6,010 in Memorial<br />

Coliseum.<br />

In a match-up between two <strong>of</strong> the league’s top defensive teams,<br />

the Wildcats and Gamecocks were nearly even in every statistical<br />

category. <strong>Kentucky</strong>, which has now won five <strong>of</strong> its last eight league<br />

openers, led the entire game and held a 10-point lead (55-45) with<br />

1:51 remaining before the Gamecocks began a late rally.<br />

South Carolina fought to the very end by scoring five consecutive<br />

points to pull within five, 55-50, with 59 seconds remaining in the<br />

game. After a pair <strong>of</strong> free-throws by senior guard Jenny Pfeiffer, a<br />

three-pointer by USC’s Brionna Dickerson brought Carolina as<br />

close as four points, 57-53, with 13 seconds left. A pair <strong>of</strong> clutch<br />

charity shots by Mahoney allowed UK to hang on for the win.<br />

Senior forward/center Jennifer Humphrey, who played a career<br />

high 37 minutes, brought down a game-high 10 rebounds for the<br />

Wildcats, who were out-rebounded (41-31) for just the third time<br />

this season. It marked the fourth consecutive game with doublefigure<br />

rebounds for Humphrey. Sophomore point guard Carly<br />

Ormerod had a career-high eight rebounds to complement three<br />

steals in a season-high 38 minutes <strong>of</strong> action.<br />
