Media Policies<br />

Credential Requests<br />

Requests for season credentials should be made<br />

by Nov. 1. Requests for single-game credentials<br />

should arrive no later than one week prior to the<br />

first regular season game. Requests should be<br />

made to:<br />

Credential Policy<br />

The <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Kentucky</strong> follows guidelines<br />

set forth by the NCAA and the Southeastern<br />

Conference governing the issuance <strong>of</strong><br />

credentials. Credentials for UK home games<br />

are issued to authorized full-time, salaried representative<br />

<strong>of</strong>, or a representative who regularly<br />

and customarily performs services for, such an<br />

entity and they are non-transferable.<br />

As early as possible, credentials should be<br />

requested in writing on company stationary and<br />

must originate only from sports editors <strong>of</strong> newspapers<br />

and national publications and/or sports<br />

directors <strong>of</strong> radio and television stations.<br />

Season credentials will be granted only to<br />

daily newspapers and television/radio stations<br />

that cover women’s basketball on a regular<br />

basis, i.e. press conferences, and all home<br />

games. Otherwise, television/radio stations,<br />

weekly newspapers and national publications<br />

will be granted credentials on a single-game,<br />

space-available basis. In addition, no recruiting<br />

services, Web sites, etc., will be credentialed at<br />

the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Kentucky</strong>.<br />

Photo Credentials<br />

Photo credentials will be issued only to<br />

accredited media outlets - daily newspapers,<br />

specialized publications and television stations.<br />

Internet Credentials<br />

Only the <strong>of</strong>ficial Web site <strong>of</strong> each participating<br />

institution and representatives <strong>of</strong> contractual<br />

rights-fee paying media will be granted access.<br />

Other media representatives not earning credentials<br />

through the criteria listed above will not be<br />

granted credentials to UK women’s basketball<br />

games for the purpose <strong>of</strong> staffing a web site.<br />

SEC Internet Policy<br />

The <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Kentucky</strong> also abides by<br />

the Southeastern Conference’s Internet policy<br />

concerning real time transmissions <strong>of</strong> athletic<br />

events (cont. on page 204)<br />

Media Policies and Procedures<br />

Media Services<br />

News Conference — Coach Mitchell and<br />

selected players meet with members <strong>of</strong> the media<br />

in the press conference area <strong>of</strong> the UK Marketing<br />

<strong>of</strong>fices at schedule times to be announced.<br />

Interview Policies-General — All interviews<br />

with players or staff members must be<br />

arranged through the Media Relations <strong>of</strong>fice.<br />

Team locker rooms, and other team quarters are<br />

private team areas. Media members are not permitted<br />

in these areas unless accompanied by<br />

appropriate <strong>University</strong> personnel.<br />

Practice — Practice usually runs from 3-6<br />

p.m. in the Joe Craft Center. Media planning to<br />

attend practice should call in advance due to<br />

changing practice schedules during the season.<br />

Player and coaches interviews can be conducted<br />

following each practice.<br />

Telephone Player Interviews — Request<br />

telephone interviews at least 24 hours in<br />

advance through the Media Relations <strong>of</strong>fice.<br />

Telephone requests will be returned when players’<br />

schedules allow.<br />

Radio Call-In Shows/Internet Chats —<br />

As specified by the Southeastern Conference, no<br />

players will be allowed to participate in live radio<br />

shows or on live chat sessions on the Internet.<br />

Coach Mitchell may participate in radio shows as<br />

her schedule allows.<br />

Postgame Interviews — Selected players<br />

and both head coaches will be available to the<br />

media following a 10-minute cooling <strong>of</strong>f period<br />

at the end <strong>of</strong> the game in the UK Press Conference<br />

Room, located in UK Marketing Offices.<br />

The visiting coach and requested players will<br />

precede the home coach and players unless otherwise<br />

specified. Each press conference will last<br />

no longer than 15 minutes. SIDs from each<br />

school should be asked to coordinate any other<br />

interview requests.<br />

Quotes will be available for all working<br />

media in the UK Media Relations Office and on<br />

the <strong>of</strong>ficial UK web site, UK<strong>Athletics</strong>.com.<br />

UK<strong>Athletics</strong>.com — The <strong>of</strong>ficial Web site<br />

for <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Kentucky</strong> <strong>Athletics</strong> is updated 24<br />

hours before each game with the latest game notes.<br />

Following each game, the site will post a<br />

game box score with summary, postgame quotes<br />

and notes from all home games and updated season<br />

statistics.<br />

Accessing Publicity Photos/Logos —<br />

Media members wishing to obtain photos and logos<br />

<strong>of</strong> the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Kentucky</strong> women’s basketball<br />

team may do so by utilizing the SEC’s Digital<br />

Image Platform. Go to www.secsports.com/media<br />

to access the platform, and click on the SEC Digital<br />

Platform icon. Users have a choice <strong>of</strong> choosing various<br />

sports photographs, logos, etc., that can be<br />

downloaded automatically.<br />

Wireless Access — Memorial Coliseum<br />

<strong>of</strong>fers free wireless internet service to media members.<br />

To log on, open a browser window, go to<br />

https://ukwg1.uky.edu, sign in as a Guest and<br />

type in a valid email address.<br />

To use the UK Wireless Network, you must<br />

select the ‘ukyedu’ network name (SSID, service<br />

set identifier) from the list <strong>of</strong> available wireless<br />

networks that appear in your wireless card configuration<br />

program, and WEP (wireless encryption<br />

protocol) must be disabled.<br />

Telephones — Long distance telephone<br />

lines are available in the media room in the Coliseum.<br />

Fax machine service also is available.<br />

There will be one telephone line available for visiting<br />

radio personnel on the press row side <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Coliseum. Two phone lines and an ISDN line<br />

are provided for visiting radio on press row.<br />
