Kentucky rallied from a 14-point second-half deficit against No.
7/8 Ohio State, but couldn’t complete the comeback as Marscilla
Packer's jumper from the foul line with 16 seconds left lifted the
Buckeyes past the Wildcats 53-51 in Value City Arena.
The Wildcats, who shot 18.8 percent (6-of-32) from
the field in the first half, outscored the Buckeyes 36-29 in the second
period. Junior center Sarah Elliott had a team-high 18 points
and junior guard Samantha Mahoney added 12.
Kentucky trailed 33-19 with 17:17 remaining in the game before
beginning to slowly chip away at the deficit. With the Wildcats trailing
41-29 with 14:08 left, Kentucky went on a 12-2 run capped off
by a three-pointer from senior guard Jenny Pfeiffer at the 9:37 mark
to come within two, 43-41.
The Cats twice knotted the score, including a 51-51 tie on a
jumper by Elliott with less than a minute remaining to set up Packer’s
heroics. A contested jumper by Mahoney with three seconds
left hit the rim to give OSU the win.
Kentucky rebounded to shoot 45.5 percent (15-of-33) in the second
half, and the Wildcats held their opponent to 55 points or fewer
for the ninth consecutive game.

Junior guard Samantha Mahoney’s five-foot jumper with 1.8 seconds
remaining allowed Kentucky to escape Coleman Coliseum with
a 63-62 victory over Alabama - its first win in Tuscaloosa since the
2003 season. The Wildcats, who trailed for the majority of the game,
were forced to overcome a seven-point halftime deficit for the win.
Kentucky, which trailed 62-59 with 46 seconds remaining, scored
the final four points of the game as junior center Sarah Elliott
knocked in a shot with 35.4 seconds remaining. The Cats forced a
steal with 19 seconds left, but a three-pointer by senior guard Jenny
Pfeiffer went off the mark. UK instantly fouled Alabama’s Talisha
Chandler, who missed her charity shot to set up Mahoney’s heroics.
Mahoney finished with a team-high 20 points, while Pfeiffer followed
with 16 points including three clutch three-pointers. Elliott
recorded her eighth consecutive double-figure scoring performance
with 15 points, including 13 in the second half.
Kentucky, which led only five times during the game, shot 36.7
percent (22-of-60) from the floor and was forced to overcome a hot
shooting night by the Crimson Tide. Alabama connected on 48.1
percent (25-of-52) of its shots from the field, but was forced into 24
turnovers that resulted in 25 points by the Wildcats. UK was outrebounded
(40-31) for just the fifth time this season and was led by
senior forward/center Jennifer Humphrey’s eight boards. Humphrey
also dished out a career-high nine assists.

Ole Miss connected on 18-of-23 free-throws, including five clutch
charity shots in overtime, as the streaking Rebels bested Kentucky,

67-65, in Memorial Coliseum. Junior guard Samantha Mahoney
scored a game-high 16 points and junior center Sarah Elliott
notched her seventh career double-double with 14 points and a
career-high 18 rebounds to lead the Wildcats.
Kentucky, which knotted the score at 55 to end regulation, held a
59-55 advantage in the overtime period before Ole Miss went on a
9-0 run that included six points from guard Carla Bartee to put the
Rebels ahead 64-59 with 31 seconds remaining.
Freshman forward Lydia Watkins knocked down her first career
three-pointer with 26 seconds left to bring UK within two, 64-62, but
after being immediately fouled, Ashley Awkward knocked down both
of her free-throws. Trailing 66-62, sophomore UK point guard Carly
Ormerod canned a three with 10 ticks remaining. Ole Miss’ Shantell
Black made the front end of a pair of free throws and UK got the
rebound, but Mahoney’s three-pointer at the buzzer was off the mark.
Ole Miss, the SEC’s leader in scoring offense, overcame 31.2
percent (24-of-77) shooting in the game, but was able to capitalize
on 21 turnovers by the Wildcats that resulted in 20 points. Kentucky,
which dropped to 18-18 all-time in overtime contests, won
the rebound battle (50-48) for the first time in league action this
season and blocked a season-high 10 shots in the game.

Sylvia Fowles scored 16 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, and
No. 8 LSU beat Kentucky 76-58 in the Pete Maravich Assembly
Center for its 40th consecutive home win.
The Lady Tigers broke out to a 17-2 advantage over the first 7:25
of the game as Kentucky missed nine of its first 10 shots. LSU
never looked back and led by as many as 31 points.
Kentucky committed 20 turnovers in the game – one short of its
season-high that resulted in 24 points by LSU off of those miscues.
Junior Kentucky center Sarah Elliott led all scorers with a gamehigh
19 points, while junior guard Samantha Mahoney added 17.
Mahoney moved her career point total to 993. She played 39 minutes
against LSU – which ties for her most in a regulation game in
her career.
Senior guard Jenny Pfeiffer was a perfect 5-of-5 from the line in
the game and has now made 31 of her last 33 charity shots dating
back to the team’s Nov. 29 contest vs. Detroit. Freshman guard
Amani Franklin also had an impressive night, scoring five points,
one shy of her career-high.
