School of Economics and Management<br />
The School of Economics and Management - was foun<strong>de</strong>d<br />
in 1759, and since 1930 it is part of the Technical<br />
University of Lisbon. This institute strives to contribute<br />
to the mo<strong>de</strong>rnisation and <strong>de</strong>velopment of Portugal by<br />
training future economists and managers, prepared to<br />
perform an active role in this process. The objectives of<br />
this school involve the promotion of education, culture,<br />
research, services supply, exchange and cooperation at<br />
national and international levels.<br />
Aca<strong>de</strong>mics<br />
At present the school has 300 teachers, about 3500<br />
stu<strong>de</strong>nts in 5 un<strong>de</strong>rgraduate courses, about 20 Master’s<br />
<strong>de</strong>gree courses, an MBA Programme, and 5 Doctorate<br />
courses. ISEG maintains a leading role among universities<br />
within its field in Portugal. This is <strong>de</strong>monstrated not only<br />
by the quality of teaching, but also by public recognition<br />

Research Units and Specialised<br />
Post-Graduate Programmes<br />
High quality research is very much praised and supported<br />
at ISEG, with the school offering a framework of incentives<br />
to its researchers to stimulate the number of publications<br />
in top scientific journals. ISEG has a total of ten specific<br />
research centres committed to produce top-scientific<br />
research. Additionally, the school publishes two Scientific<br />
Journals, the Portuguese Journal of Management Studies<br />
since 1993 and Portuguese Economic Journal since 2002.<br />
Both are very important publications for the Portuguese<br />
scientific community.
