to Good Turn for America. Initial
log-on pass codes are available at the
district office from the district executive
or from Sue Mortimer. The district executive
w ill also have a copy available at
each roundtable. Show America w hat
these great Scouts have been doing to
strengthen America!
Camporee − April 28-30
Are you ready for Survivor − Boy Scout
style? Then sign up for the 2006 Great
Chinook Camporee, w hich w ill be held
at Camp Wilkerson, near Rainier,
Oregon. Check-in begins at 5:30 p.m.
This Survivor w eekend is about team-
w ork, skill and know ledge. The fee is
$11 per person. The fee covers camp
rental, insurance, a cool patch, aw ards
and program material. Registration
forms are available at roundtable or the
district office. Information pamphlets
w ill be distributed at the March roundtable.
OA is providing staff this year.
Interested Arrowmen may contact
Chapter Chiefs.
Friends of Scouting
The family FOS campaign is off and
sailing on its Journey of Discovery. This
year the district has three levels of recognition
for packs, troops, teams, and
crew s. The Presidential level is for those
w ho achieve their goal and w ill receive a
10% discount. Significant Contributor is
for those w ho achieve a significant portion
of their goal. And a 100% FOS
Participation is for those units that have
100% of families participating in the
FOS campaign. Packets can be turned in
at the district office, or contact the
district executive for a pick up. The
Presidential goal is due by April 28. The
office w ill be open until 8:00 p.m. every
Thursday night in April w ith assistance
available.
Membership
Have Webelos crossed over yet, or have
they had a crossover ceremony? If not,
the OA is holding a district-w ide crossover
ceremony at Hudson Park in
Rainier on March 30 at 6:00 p.m. Interested
den leaders, contact Joe McGilvra
at 503.397.4696 to be included.
Pack Growth
Coordinators
Spring is a great time to grow Cub
Scouts. Field trips, district Scoutcapades,
and day camp opportunities are
available to excite both Cub Scouts and
parents. Look at boy-recruiting-boy type
of events. Think about Tiger recruiting
this May. Have den leaders seek out
Tiger adult partners as future den
leaders. Ask them about friends and
grandparents for possible adult helpers.
This April, the district membership team
28
is conducting a “lost boy survey.” This
survey attempts to contact each Scout
w ho has dropped off last year’s charter
and find out why the Scout is no longer
in Scouting. Troops and packs w ill be
asked to participate.
District Recognition
Awards
Submit names of outstanding Scout
leaders w ho have done great things for
their units (by putting spark in the program)
for the “Sparkplug Aw ard.” Also,
if they have given exceptional service
and leadership to your unit you may
submit their names for one of three
possible District Awards of Merit.
Forms are available at the district office
and from the district executive. Forms
are due by the end of April.
Order of the Arrow
The local chapter of the OA w ould like
to introduce its new Chapter Advisor
Brian Vaerw yck of St. Helens, Oregon
Brian is from Troop 252 and is an
Arrow man of long standing. He plans to
initiate a strong ceremonies team and
alternating OA meetings betw een Longview
and St. Helens. He and the Chapter
Chief Larry Nuggent w ant to build the
program. Many Scouts and Scouters
have been tapped out (selected to join),
but few have renew ed dues or attended
meetings. Contact the district office or
the Chapter Chief if you w ould like to
renew your membership.
