A Year of Optimism
The year 2006 promises to be a successful
one for Sea Scouts, that is if things
continue as they have started. Sea
Scouts have just completed one of two
exciting opportunities. The first being
this year’s Sportsman Show Service
Project. Oh, by the w ay, it was a
tremendous success. From the beginning
crew s w ere eager to take part in
this year’s show and they cheerfully
took turns staffing the Sea Scout booth.
One enthusiastic participant w rote “I
thought I could easily take a turn or two
at a booth to support the Sea Scout
public service message…hand out
flyers, etc. But, this is not that …it w as
soooo fun. Smiling kids and painted
birds.” The atmosphere at the event w as
one of fun and excitement as smiling
kids and painted decoys symbolized the
positive impact Sea Scouts had on this
show . For those w ho had tw o to three
hours to spare and wanted to spend
them serving, being a part of the show
w as a w onderful experience and a great
w ay to earn FOS credit for their ships.
Included in the show w ere more
hands-on things to do like fishing, boating
and hunting. The show also featured
a variety of vendors from as far aw ay as
South Africa and Australia. How ever,
the highlight of the event w as helping
46
people learn about Sea Scouts. All in all
it w as a great several days for Sea Scouting.
In the end over 250 decoys w ere
painted and $1,500 was raised for FOS.
Way to go guys and girls!
