Friends of Scouting<br />

The Friends of Scouting effort is<br />

heating up in <strong>the</strong> Mighty Three Rivers<br />

District. Some units have already met<br />

<strong>the</strong>ir Presidential Goal. Many units are<br />

doing better this year than ever before.<br />

deadline for units to reach Presidential<br />

Race to Scoutcapades −<br />

<strong>Apr</strong>il 8<br />

Scoutcapades is coming up on Saturday,<br />

<strong>Apr</strong>il 8 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Cub<br />

Scouts, Boy Scouts and Venturers alike<br />

are invited to participate in this great<br />

event. Among o<strong>the</strong>r great activities,<br />

<strong>the</strong>re w ill be a district Pinew ood derby<br />

and a Dutch oven dessert cook-off. So<br />

race to Scoutcapades w ith <strong>the</strong> fastest<br />

cars and best cooks. For more information<br />

Camporee − May 5-7<br />

This year’s camporee w ill be held at<br />

Willamette Mission State Park. The<br />

<strong>the</strong>me is “The Return to Brow nsea<br />

Island.” As in years past, our chapter of<br />

<strong>the</strong> Order of <strong>the</strong> Arrow developed <strong>the</strong><br />

program for this year’s event. The fee is<br />

$8.50 per person. Each person w ho<br />

attends camporee w ill receive a camporee<br />

patch. In addition to having fun<br />

at camporee, this event encourages<br />

youths to sharpen <strong>the</strong>ir Scouting skills,<br />

teaches <strong>the</strong>m new activities, and<br />

prepares Webelos for <strong>the</strong> troop method<br />

Scouter?<br />

Nominations are now being accepted<br />

for <strong>the</strong> District Aw ard of Merit. Any<br />

Scouter serving in <strong>the</strong> Three Rivers<br />

District may receive this aw ard. Take<br />

<strong>the</strong> time to submit a nomination for one<br />

or more amazing Scouters you know .<br />

The nominations need to be submitted<br />

to Herb Davis no later <strong>the</strong>n <strong>Apr</strong>il 1.<br />

Training<br />

Thanks to Kathy Morse and her entire<br />

training team for all <strong>the</strong>ir effort during<br />

<strong>the</strong> month of February to put on great<br />

training events. The next opportunity<br />

for training is coming up in <strong>Apr</strong>il. If you<br />

have questions about training or need to<br />

be trained, contact Kathy at<br />

Webelos-to-Scout<br />

Transition<br />

Over <strong>the</strong> past<br />

several w eeks<br />

many youths have<br />

crossed over from<br />

Cub Scouts to Boy<br />

Scouts. In <strong>the</strong><br />

w eeks to come<br />

many more w ill<br />

cross over. Now is<br />

a good time for Webelos to visit some<br />

Boy Scouts or go on a troop outing.<br />

Make plans for <strong>the</strong>m to attend a<br />

summer camp. Register <strong>the</strong>m in a troop.<br />

Arrange for advancement. The w eeks<br />

ahead w ill determine w he<strong>the</strong>r or not<br />

<strong>the</strong>se new Scouts make a great transition<br />

into a troop. Thanks to all those Scout<br />

leaders w ho go out of <strong>the</strong>ir w ay to make<br />

an impact on new Scouts in <strong>the</strong> troops.<br />
