Contact Carol Girrens at 503.829.9969. Friends of Scouting The Friends of Scouting effort is heating up in the Mighty Three Rivers District. Some units have already met their Presidential Goal. Many units are doing better this year than ever before. If you have any questions relating to the unit FOS campaign, please contact Three Rivers Family FOS Chair Chris Reynolds at 503.682.1846 or scbbq@comcast.net. Remember, the deadline for units to reach Presidential and qualify for reduced camp fees is Friday, April 28. Race to Scoutcapades − April 8 Scoutcapades is coming up on Saturday, April 8 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Venturers alike are invited to participate in this great event. Among other great activities, there w ill be a district Pinew ood derby and a Dutch oven dessert cook-off. So race to Scoutcapades w ith the fastest cars and best cooks. For more information and to register units, contact Debra White at 503.722.1061 or Debra.White@nw dc.net. Camporee − May 5-7 This year’s camporee w ill be held at Willamette Mission State Park. The theme is “The Return to Brow nsea Island.” As in years past, our chapter of the Order of the Arrow developed the program for this year’s event. The fee is $8.50 per person. Each person w ho attends camporee w ill receive a camporee patch. In addition to having fun at camporee, this event encourages youths to sharpen their Scouting skills, teaches them new activities, and prepares Webelos for the troop method of Scouting. Any Scouter serving in the Three Rivers District may receive this aw ard. Take the time to submit a nomination for one or more amazing Scouters you know . The nominations need to be submitted to Herb Davis no later then April 1. Herb can be reached at 503.655.3133. 40 Training Thanks to Kathy Morse and her entire training team for all their effort during the month of February to put on great training events. The next opportunity for training is coming up in April. If you have questions about training or need to be trained, contact Kathy at 503.829.7885. Webelos-to-Scout Transition Over the past several w eeks many youths have crossed over from Cub Scouts to Boy Scouts. In the w eeks to come many more w ill cross over. Now is a good time for Webelos to visit some Boy Scouts or go on a troop outing. Make plans for them to attend a summer camp. Register them in a troop. Arrange for advancement. The w eeks ahead w ill determine w hether or not these new Scouts make a great transition into a troop. Thanks to all those Scout leaders w ho go out of their w ay to make an impact on new Scouts in the troops. Start planning now for a booth. Don’t miss this fantastic display of Scouting spirit. The district pinew ood derby w ill be held in conjunction w ith Scoutcapades. For more information, contact Bill or Nicki Meyers at 503.663.9402. Pinewood Derby The district pinew ood derby w ill take place at Scoutcapades again this year. Each pack may enter tw o cars per division from their pack run-offs. The divisions are Tigers, Wolves, Bears, Webelos 1, and Webelos 2. The cost is $5 per car to enter the race. There is an open class w here all Scouts can enter their cars. Prizes w ill be for the fastest cars and recognitions w ill be made for best designs. Contact Randy Veenker at 503.668.0764. Super Saturday Training Training is the most important thing a leader can do to keep youth in the great Scouting programs. On Saturday, March 18, training for all positions w ill be offered. Spring Product Sale Thanks to all the units signed up for the candy and meat stick sale. It’s not too late to sign up if units are still in need of extra money. The sale runs to April 9. A 32% profit can be made for your unit. Contact Jerry Freeman at 503.225.4014 to sign up for a store front or get more product. Summer Camp The Cascade Pacific Council has the best camps in the country, so be sure to get Scouts signed up for camp. A Scout’s summer camp experience is the highlight of his Scouting year. Spirit of Scouting Scholarship If you are an active Scout w ith the rank of Life or Eagle and w ill be graduating this year, you may qualify for the Spirit of Scouting Scholarship being offered through the David Douglas Educational 41 Foundation. The requirements to qualify for the $1,000 scholarship are available at the Counseling offices at David Douglas High School. Leadership skills at work.
