Tercar Adding Unit<br />

To Houston Gaylynn<br />

HOUSTON—The C.aylynn Terrace, scaling<br />

803 patrons, is heing construcled adjacent<br />

to the Gaylynn Theatre in the Sharpstown<br />

Shopping Center by Tercar Theatre<br />

Co. A mid-December opening is scheduled.<br />

Charles Paine, managing director of the<br />

Gaylynn, said that the new unit will be<br />

equipped with xenon lamp projectors and<br />

that it later may become an art house. However,<br />

he has "Oliver!" booked for the Gaylynn<br />

Terrace late in January and will open<br />

the new theatre with a general commercial<br />

release.<br />

New Bonnie. Clyde Film<br />

HOUSTON—"The Other Side of<br />

Bonnie<br />

and Clyde," after several test dates across<br />

I he coimtry, was given its first major opening<br />

in three General Cinema theatres in<br />

Houston September 25.<br />

Produced by Larry Buchanan, the film<br />

Clyde. This footage was exposed by an officer<br />

just minutes after the shootout between<br />

Bonnie and Clyde and Frank Hamr and<br />

other officers.<br />

The film stars two new faces—Jo Enterentree<br />

as Bonnie and Lucky Mosely as<br />

Clyde. Also in the film are several people<br />

from the Bonnie and Clyde era who play<br />

themselves. The best known of these are<br />

Floyd Hamilton, Mrs. Frank Hamr and her<br />

son Frank jr.<br />

In a unique postscript to the film, Hamilton<br />

undergoes an actual lie detector test in<br />

which he gives answers to the most controversal<br />

questions about Bonnie and Clyde,<br />

whom he knew firsthand.<br />

Charles Wolfe, 62. Dies<br />

SAN ANTONIO — Charles Wolfe, 62.<br />

died Thursday, September 26, following a<br />

heart attack. He had been a patient in a<br />

local hospital about three weeks.<br />

Wolfe was manager of the Prince Theatre<br />

and city manager of three area drive-ins for<br />

Pacific Theatres. He had been associated<br />

with various phases of theatre management<br />

for 25 years.<br />

Henry Mancini to Conduct<br />

HOLLYWOOD—Henry Mancini, threetime<br />

"Oscar" winner, has been named music<br />

director and conductor for the 41st annual<br />

awards presentation of the Academy of Motion<br />

Picture Arts and Sciences.<br />

DALLAS— Lxhibitor merchandising sessessions<br />

on 2()th Century-Fox's roadshow<br />

"Star!" will be held Wednesday (9) and<br />

Thursday at the Hilton Inn. hosted by John<br />

L. John, 2()th-Fox's roadshow advertisingpublicity<br />

director.<br />

John will brief exhibitors on the company's<br />

policies and campaign directors for<br />

the film, which presents Julie Andrews and<br />

Richard Crenna in the top roles of the story<br />

of the late Gertrude Lawrence. Presentations<br />

of advertising and promotional materials,<br />

an open forum for questions and<br />

answers and general discussion of sales ideas<br />

for the roadshow also will be on the conference<br />

program.<br />

Expected to attend are Francis Barr, Interstate<br />

Theatres advertising director; Lynn<br />

Harris and Hal Hodgson, representing Interstate's<br />

Dallas office; Mrs. Sanda Bluxom,<br />

Interstate's Fort Worth office; Mrs. Sue<br />

Shanbour and Richard Garman, Tower Theatre,<br />

Oklahoma City; George Gaughan and<br />

way things really were.<br />

Burl Ives narrates a semi-documentary<br />

MGM 'Hot Millions' Benefit<br />

portion of the film, which includes recently<br />

found motion picture footage of the actual<br />

bullet-ridden car and bodies of Bonnie and edy. "Hot Millions," was selected as the<br />

picture for the movie premiere Thursday ( 3 )<br />

at the Woodlawn Theatre as a benefit for<br />

E. J. Wilson, the police officer who was<br />

struck by a car last March while acting as<br />

an off-duty escort.<br />

Wilson is still in a coma. His pay checks,<br />

which supported his wife and two daughters,<br />

were discontinued in July. No expenses involved<br />

in the benefit were to be deducted<br />

from the premiere proceeds, all of the income<br />

to go directly to the Wilson famih.<br />

The campaign goal was $10,000 and an<br />

advance sale of $5,500 was reported, with<br />

tickets priced at $5 each.<br />

Tom Powers, city manager of Cinema<br />

Arts Theatres, reported that the circuit had<br />

donated use of the Woodlawn and MGM<br />

made the film available free. Big John Hamilton,<br />

the San Antonio restaurant operator,<br />

who has appeared in several John Wayne<br />

movies, served as chairman for the benefit.<br />

Owners Ass'n, as chairman for the<br />

organization's February 4-6 convention.<br />

The appointment became necessary when<br />

liric deNeve, the former chairman, was<br />

transferred from the Gulf States Theatres'<br />

D;illas office to the circuit's home offices in<br />

McComb, Miss.<br />

Serving with Watson will be D. L. Gates.<br />

Abilene, and Brandon Doak, Dallas.<br />

The new chairman met with Barry and<br />

deNeve for a briefing concerning the progress<br />

on convention planning. Another meeting<br />

of Watson and the other convention committee<br />

members will be held Tuesday (S).<br />

has been announced as the Royal Coach Inn<br />

Exchange to New Quarters<br />

OKLAHOMA CITY — Alter occupying<br />

the building at 623 West Sheridan for more<br />

than 40 years, the Universal exchange moved<br />

Friday, September 27, to 710 West Sheridan.<br />

The Universal exchange, managed by<br />

Charles Hudges. will keep the same telephone<br />

number—CEntral 2-9206— it had at<br />

the former location. The new quarters at<br />

710 West Sheridan became available to Universal<br />

when MGM moved to 2200 Classen<br />

Blvd. earlier in September.<br />
