PICTURES!
AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL
Glory Stompcrs, The (A IP)— Dennis Hopper,
Jody McCrea, Chris Noel. If your
crowd likes this type, play it. Around here
they eat it up. This was better than most,
had good comments. I pasted up pictures of
Chris Noel in the theatre front that attracted
a lot of attention. This show packed the theatre
for me! Played Sun., Mon. Weather:
Rainy.—Jerry Brekke, Mayer Theatre, Hebron,
N.D.
Psych-Out (AIP)—Susan Strasberg, Dean
Stockwell, Jack Nicholson. A very good picture
for its type. Used on a double bill, second
run. Played Thurs.. Fri., Sat.—S. T.
Jackson, Jackson Theatre. Flomaton, Ala.
Pop. 1,480.
Savage Seven, The (AIP)— Robert Walker
jr., Adam Roarke, Joanna Frank. It's the
Indians versus the motorcycle gangs. All who
saw it commented that it was excellent. Few
came due to a fair nearby. Played Thurs.,
Fri., Sat. Weather: Chilly.—Charles Burton,
Tri-Cities Drive-In, Lockwood, Mo. Pop.
BUENA VISTA
Charlie, the Lonesome Cougar (BV)—Ron
Brown, Linda Wallace, Brian Russell. This
was an excellent family movie. We get a few
parents and most all of the kids on Walt Disney
movies. Played Sat., Sun., Mon. Weather:
Good. — Mrs. Doyle Duncan, Nugget
Theatre, Telluride, Colo. Pop. 600.
COLUMBIA
Big Gundown, The (Col)—Lee Van Cleef,
Thomas Milian, Luisa Rivelli. A western that
will do business in towns that go for westerns
of this type. In checking with the
younger generation at the show I heard many
say that it's not nearly as good as the Eastwood
westerns. I attended opening night
on this film in Oklahoma's biggest drive-in.
For my part I thought there should have
been a bigger crowd.—Leon Kidwell, Rex
Theatre, Konawa, Okla.
In Cold Blood (Col)—Robert Blake, Scott
Play 'Yours, Mine & Outs'
And Watch People Come
"Yours, Mine and Ours" from United
Artists is truly a great picture. Wish
they would make more like this. Play,
by all means, and watch the people
Urges Exhibitors to Play
Tibbs' 'Born to Buck'
In 30 years of exhibition I have never
written about a single picture. In breaking
tradition I want to urge exhibitors to
play Casey Tibbs' "Bom to Buck."
Good customer acceptance. No driveouts,
and it
It's
a sleeper.
set a 30-year grossing high.
C. E. BRADSHAW
Hipp and Hilltop Theatres
Gregory, S. D.
Wilson, John Forsythe. Here's a black and
white Kansan murder story that did a satisfactory
gross. This played during a 3-day
country fair. Picture played 7 days.—C. W.
Swiercinsky, Major Theatre, Washington,
Kas.
Time for Killing, A (Col)—Glenn Ford,
George Hamilton, Inger Stevens. This
seemed to be a good Civil War western. Very
good cast. I used it on a double bill, could
have been a single. Played Thurs., Fri., Sat.
—S. T. Jackson, Jackson Theatre, Flomaton,
Ala. Pop. 1,480.
METRO-GOLDWYN-MAYER
Stranger in Town, A (MGM)—Tony Anthony,
Frank Wolf, Yolanda Modio. This is
something similar to the "Dollar" westerns
starring Clint Eastwood, big, bad and brutal.
Jungle Book, The (BV)—Animated feature.
Therefore, it pulled a good crowd. I'm look-
The kids came and loved it. It's good ing forward to the next one titled "The
to show Disney product. One doesn't have Stranger Returns." Any way you check it,
to be on pins and needles wondering what's
going to come out an actor's mouth. Played
Thurs., Fri., Sat.—Leon Kidwell, Rex Theatre,
Konawa, Okla.
a small town needs a good western on Friday
and Saturday nights. Played Fri., Sat.
Weather: Good.—I. Roche, Starlite Drive-In,
Chipley, Fla. Pop. 3,200.
PARAMOUNT
Blue (Para)—Terence Stamp, Joanna Pettet,
Karl Maiden. This was a good western
that seemed to please our audience. Had
some who only come once in a while. Played
Sun., Mon. Weather: Good—Mrs. Doyle
Duncan, Nugget Theatre, Telluride, Colo.
Pop. 600.
Odd Couple, The (Para)—Jack Lemmon,
Walter Matthau, John Fiedler. This is the
funniest show we've had since taking over
the operation of the old Didsbury Theatre
in June. Real good audience reaction on this
one.^—Gus Kreykenbohm. Viking Theatre,
Walden. N.Y. Pop. 5,500.
Will Penny (Para) — Charlton Heston,
Joan Hackett, Donald Pleasence. Outdoors
picture. This seemed to satisfy the fans who
like westerns. — C. A. Swiercinky, Major
Theatre, Washington, Kas.
20TH CENTURY-FOX
Detective,
JERRY REITER
The (20th-Fox)—-Frank Sinatra,
Maiek Theatre
Lee Remick, Ralph Meeker. Rough. The detective
film Iowa
did fair but below average. Not
Independence,
for the family trade. Played Wed. through
Guide for the Married Man, A (20th-Fox
Pop. 1,200.
St. Valentine's Day Massacre, The (20th
Fox)—Jason Robards, George Segal, Ralp
Meeker. We didn't do the business on thi
that we thought we would do. It may be tha
the story had been done so many times,
think if they could have had Rod Steiger a
Al Capone it would have helped.—Leoi
Kidwell, Rex Theatre. Konawa, Okla.
UNITED ARTISTS
Party, The (UA)— Peter Sellers, Claudin
Longet, Steve Franken. Oh, boy, what
show! Slapstick that will keep them rollin
in the aisles. Advertise it more than I did
I should have done more than I did. Playei
Sat., Sun., Mon., Wed. Weather: Good.-
Leon Kidwell, Rex Theatre, Konawa, Okla
Return of the Seven (UA)—Yul Brynner
Robert Fuller, Julian Mateos. This was
rough western, but we didn't do much on it
Perhaps Yul Brynner is losing his appea
even though he plays these parts very well
Played Thurs., Fri., Sat. Weather: Good.-
Evelyn and Russell Burgess, Valley Drive
In, Velva, N.D.
Thomas Crown Affair, The (UA)—Stev.
Viking Theatre, Walden, N.Y. Pop. 5,500.
UNIVERSAL
Did You Hear the One About the Travel
pictures bordering on the old slapstick com
edy style.—John M. Bailey, Opera House
Miltonvale, Kas. Pop 911.
Shakiest Gun in the West, The (Univ)-
Don Knotts, Barbara Rhoades, Jackie Coo
gan. A good little comedy that brings in bus
iness. Every one of Don Knotts' Universa
pictures has repeat power. Played Thurs.
Fri., Sat. Weather: Mild and rain.—Charle
Burton, Tri-Cities Drive-In, Lockwood, Mo
Pop. 852,
WARNER BR0S.-7 ARTS
First to Fight (WB-7A) — Chad Evercli
'Wait Until Dark' Is
Great Suspense Show
"Wait Until Dark" from Warner
Bros.-7 Arts is a thriller. It had the
young folks screaming from the first
The acting is superb. A wonderful suspense
show.
