National Merit Semifinalists
Eleven St. Charles seniors qualified as 2005-2006
National Merit Semifinalists, the most of any Central

11 National Merit
Semifinalists for St.
Charles; most in city
Eleven St. Charles seniors were named
National Merit Semifinalists by the National
Merit Scholarship Corporation based
on their scores on the Pre-Scholastic
Aptitude/National Merit Qualifying Test
(PSAT/NMSQT) they took last year as
juniors. Overall there were 16,000 semifinalists
named and who now compete with
students nationwide for National Merit
Scholarships totaling more than $33
million, underwritten by approximately 500
independent sponsor organizations as well
as by the NMSC. Only 8,200 students will
be selected National Merit Scholars later
this year.

Parish; Michael T. Banning, son of Mrs.
Eileen Banning of Columbus and a member
of Our Lady of Peace Parish; Arthur T.

21 Commended Scholars
Twenty-one St. Charles seniors qualified as
National Merit Commended Scholars by
the National Merit ® Scholarship Program
for their performance on last year’s Pre-
Scholastic Aptitude/National Merit Qualifying
Test (PSAT/NMSQT). They are among
the 34,000 students to be honored, but don’t
continue in competition for Merit Scholarships.

Blessed Mother Devotion
Msgr. Thomas M. Bennett leads the entire student body,
faculty, and guests in prayer during last May’s Marian
Devotion at Our Lady of Lourdes Grotto, an annual
event since the landmark was built on the campus in
1931.

Hugh J. Dorrian ’53, Columbus City Auditor and St.
Charles Advisory Board member was the special guest
speaker at last May’s National Honor Society induction
ceremony in Mother of Mercy Chapel.
