The town counts over 6 000 inhabitants and is the centre of 20 villages with a population of 25 000, concentrating schools, health establishments, trade, culture and sport facilities. The town is an administrative, cultural and industrial centre of the northern part of the Sabinov district. Recently, the town has seen the development of services and trade in many areas. In the town, there are two sites suitable for establishing an industrial park. Both are grienfield sites situated in an industrial zone, with an area of 5 ha each. In close proximity of both sites, all infrastructure networks (power supply, sewer and gas supply) are available, with the internationally important I/68 road and a railway track (Prešov – Plaveč) leading through the town. In the direction of Košice and Poprad, international airports are situated, both about 70 km away. The town intends to support potential investors according to the Act on the establishment of industrial parks. Qualified workforce, reliable supply chains, good accessibility (by air or road), friendly business environment and well-developed infrastructure further increase the attractiveness of the location. Today, the largest and the most renowned company is ODEVA s.r.o. Lipany, making cloths, mostly for exports. Other smaller enterprises and self-employed are engaged in processing of plastic, manufacturing of windows, construction, production of drugs and engineering.
