This document contains basic product and configuration information that will enable you to configure your system via 

P C - / S y s t e m - A r c h i t e c t . 

Only these tools will ensure a fast and proper configuration of your PRIMERGY server or your complete 

P R I M E R G Y R a c k s y s t e m . 

You can configure your individual PRIMERGY server in order to adjust your specific requirements. 

The System configurator is divided into several chapters that are identical to the current price list and PC-/SystemArchitect. 

Please follow the lines. If there is a junction, you can choose which way or component you would like to take. Go through 

the configurator by following the lines from the top to the bottom.

Section III Memory 

- There are 8 memory slots for max. 32GB RAM ( Fully Buffered DIMM = FBD533 / PC2-4200F ) available 

( For explanation of following terms refer to section "Memory Configurations" 

- The memory area is divided into 2 branches with 2 channels each and 2 slots per channel 

- The first slot of each channel belongs to memory bank 1, the second slot belongs to memory bank 2 

- Each slot can optionally be equipped with 512MB, 1GB, 2GB or 4GB FBDIMM modules 

No mix of modules within one memory branch of bank1 or bank2 allowed. 

- Memory upgrade is only possible per branch with modul pairs 

( one pair per branch, max. two pairs / branch). ) 

- For each basic unit bank 1 of the first branch has to be equipped with one memory pair, 

which has to be ordered with the ordercode of a "Base Memory" 

(either 2x512MB = 1GB, 2x1GB = 2GB, 2x2GB = 4GB or 2x4GB = 8GB) 

Note**: The price of the smallest 1GB FBD533 Base Memory is already included in the basic unit,

So additional memory extensions (Upgrade Memory ) can still be configured up to three times 

for the standard market price. 

- For the function Memory Mirroring two identical memory module pairs regarding capacity 

are necessary in each branch of one memory bank. So following memory has to be ordered: 

1.) Minimum one time the same capacity like already is preinstalled in the basic unit has to be ordered 

2.) For addtitional memory 2x the same capacity has to be ordered

For the Memory Mirroring mode two identical memory modules pairs (branch 0 & 1) are necessary. 

( bank1 of branch 0 and 1 contain identical memory pairs ) 

Therfore the following upgrade memory has to be ordered additionally: 

1.) Minimum one time the same capacity like the selected Base Memory of the basic unit =

The function Memory Mirroring can be configured per BIOS setup. 

For mirrored memory configurations the following items have to be considered: 

Capacity: 50% of the configured memory 

Availability: Maximum memory availability 

After non-correctable errors or too many correctable errors 

the Mirror takes over immediately and the system remains online. 

Performance: 2-way interleave only in mirror configurations, 

therefore potentially not max. performance 

In general it is recommended to use identical capacities over the branches / channels, 

regarding bank1 and bank 2 to ensure max. performance bandwidth. = = =

Section VII SCSI-/SAS-/Disk Array/ Fibre-Channel Controller 

On-board SAS-Controller for SAS-HDs and SATA HD`s 

The system is equipped with a eight channel SAS on-board controller and embedded "IME". 

IME (Integrated Mirroring Enhanced) offers the RAID levels 0, 1, 1E without any additional costs. 

IME is a RAID 0, 1 implementation, whereby RAID 1 can operate with an odd number of hard disks. 

Up to 6 hard disks including one hot spare HD are possible (limited by HHD slots in 

system). Administration of IME is possible with the LSI Global Array Manager (GAM). 

Windows2000/2003 as well as SUSE and RedHat Linux are supported (Restrictions refer to Software Configurator) 

The SAS IME solution supports 2 independent RAID volumes, one can contain SAS disks the other SATA disks. 

No additional components required.

The on-board SAS-controller can be upgraded via the "MegaRaid PCI Express ROMB" upgrade kit to a full
