Honorable, usually in its abbreviated<br />

form, Hon., <strong>of</strong>ten precedes the names <strong>of</strong><br />

high public <strong>of</strong>ficials, despite the dishonorable<br />

records <strong>of</strong> some. It is used in lethonorable,<br />

honorary, honored 171<br />

Pedal (noun), a foot-operated lever;<br />

(verb) to operate such a device, “to pedal<br />

a bicycle.” Peddle, to work at selling<br />

goods carried from place to place; “to<br />

peddle brushes.”<br />

Plain (noun), a level, treeless region,<br />
