wind ENSEMBLES
Membership in the various Wind Ensembles is by audition
only. Everyone is welcome to audition for the Wind
Ensembles whether or not the student studies at the
Preparatory.
Wind Orchestra (Ages 10 - 18)
Elijah Wirth, Director
Open to advanced wind, brass and percussion players,
this orchestra is the elite wind ensemble in Peabody's
Preparatory division. This ensemble performs collegiate
and professional repertoire in a challenging, nurturing
and educational environment. Wind Orchestra students
frequently collaborate with Peabody Conservatory
students and receive coachings from Preparatory faculty.
Enrollment is limited to one or two players on a part,
which insures personal attention from the conductor and
other faculty members. Membership is drawn from the
Baltimore/Metropolitan area, Southern Pennsylvania and
Delaware. This ensemble is meant to be a supplement to
the student's school band program and requires that the
student be a member of their school music program if
one exists. Annual events include a concerto competition
and a commissioning project with Peabody Conservatory
composition majors.

Wind Band (Ages 8 - 18)
Karen Seward, Director
Open to intermediate level wind, brass and percussion
players, this performing ensemble provides opportunities
for the cultivation of a characteristic tone, the building
of technical skills, team spirit, and responsible rehearsal
habits. Students will strengthen listening skills, their ability
to analyze and evaluate music, and music performances.
A special emphasis on music reading skills will prepare
intermediate students for lifelong musical learning as well.
Several performances will be given on and off campus.

Concert Band (Ages 6 - 13)

players, this performing ensemble provides opportunities

Please call the Preparatory Office at 410-234-4630 to
schedule an appointment. New students and all members
of the 2012-2013 Concert Band, Wind Band and Wind
Orchestra must schedule an audition appointment for the
2013-2014 academic year.

regarding audition requirements for Wind Orchestra,

klseward77@mac.com. Playing at the recommended repertoire
level does not guarantee acceptance. If students are
not accepted into the Wind Band or Wind Orchestra, they
will be automatically be considered for acceptance in the
Concert Band.
