lIoubt. which makes them hesitant to act<br />
(9: 44-45).<br />
This verse of the Qur'1n bas made the following matters<br />
clear to the mind: .<br />
1. It is' evident that those-holding-fast-the<br />
conviction (i.e., the true Muslims), who used to<br />
participate in fighti!lg with their possessions,<br />
had conviction (Tman) in MaliJ'ikah (the forces<br />
of natuJ:e), the Divine Books, and the Rusul in<br />
addition to their conviction (lman) in <strong>All</strong>ah and<br />
the life hereafter. But here, in this verse of the<br />
Qur'In, the mention of their conviction (lmAn)<br />
in <strong>All</strong>ah and the life hereafter has only been<br />
thought to be enough. .<br />
2. The hyPOcrites (i.e., mU7Iaftqee7l) were those<br />
people who verbally professed all the elements<br />
of conviction (Tmln), were called Muslims, and<br />
lived their social life with them. The Qur'1n<br />
does not accept their conviction (Tman) and<br />
makes proclamation in UI!ambiguous terms that<br />
these are the people who had no conviction<br />
(Iman) in <strong>All</strong>ah and the life hereafter.<br />
3. Therefore, when the Muslims will be told to<br />
have conviction (Jman) in <strong>All</strong>ah and the life<br />
hereafter, and do the good deeds, it would mean<br />
that their being a Muslim by birth or merely<br />
professing the conviction (Tman) verbally is not<br />
enough. Conviction (Tmln) ought to be from the<br />
core of one's heart and dle actions of life should
