Walgett Aboriginal Medical Service Co-Operative Limited ANNUAL REPORT 2010/2011 EYE HEALTH PROGRAM JULY 2010 TO JUNE 2011 Introduction This year has been extremely exciting for the Eye Health Team. In July 2010, Mrs. Phyllis Tighe (Eye Health Coordinator) won the Director General Award at the NSW Aboriginal Health Awards. In March the Program took ownership of a OCT Machine and a Visual Field Machine. This equipment will assist in improving outcomes for clients with visual problems. In April the Team joined with other Walgett Aboriginal Medical Service Cooperative Limited staff past and present to celebrate twenty five years of service to Walgett and surrounding communities. The following communities were received Eye Health Services: • Armidale • Ashford • Boggabilla • Brewarrina • Collarenebri • Coonamble • Glen Innes • Goodooga • Gunnedah • Inverell • Lightning Ridge • Moree • Mungindi • Narrabri • Pilliga • Quirindi • Tamworth • Tenterfield • Tingha • Toomelah • Walgett • Walhallow • Weilmoringle • Wee Waa Meetings/Conferences Jenny Hunt and Phyllis Tighe • Program Meeting • Staff Meeting • Weekly Team Meetings • Staff In-services Community Programs & Health Promotion Jenny Hunt and Phyllis Tighe • WAMS 25 Year Celebrations Staff Development Phyllis Tighe • ICEE Training Jenny Hunt • Certificate Three in Aboriginal Health at the Aboriginal Health College • ICEE Training Partnerships The Eye Health Coordinator continues to liaise and work with the following organisations: • International Centre for Eye Care Education • Prince of Wales Hospital-Eye Health Team Celebrating 25 years in 2011 – Health is Life is Health Funded by the Federal Department of Health & Ageing and NSW Health 67
