Walgett Aboriginal Medical Service Co-Operative Limited ANNUAL REPORT 2010/2011 Staff Development • Supervision Sessions held four to six weekly with Health Service Coordinator. • Aboriginal Health Worker completed the Certificate IV in Aboriginal Health through the College of AHMRC. • Attending the AH&MRC Chronic Disease conference in Sydney. • H4L RN Alcock commenced Australian Immunisation Course for a over a period of twelve weeks, modules are completed and submitted via the internet Conclusion We look forward to continuing to provide our services to the people of Walgett who are living with a Chronic Diseases and to working in partnership with the WAMS Maternity Team to improve the health of Aboriginal mothers, babies and children in order to assist them to improve their quality of life. Walgett Aboriginal Medical Service Co-Operative Limited ANNUAL REPORT 2010/2011 HEALTHY FOR LIFE JULY 2010 TO JUNE 2011 Introduction On 15th February 2011 I recommenced work as the Exercise Physiologist for the Healthy for Life program one day per week after ten months of maternity leave. Since returning to this position I have received minimal client referrals. A large amount of interest was shown in the WAMS Exercise Therapy room but unfortunately it has been unavailable whilst repairs have been completed making it difficult to retain interest in the Healthy for Life program. I have commenced weekly group exercise classes for females to accommodate the closure of the WAMS Exercise Therapy room but this also has had extremely poor attendance. General Duties • Provide exercise advice to clients suffering from or at risk of developing a chronic disease. • Developing exercise programs for individuals with chronic disease. • Providing support for clients through review of progress and programs for individuals. • Developing group exercise sessions to cater for Healthy for life clients wishing to exercise in a group setting. • Working with WAMS midwifery team to develop both ante and post natal exercise classes and advice for mothers. • Calibration of exercise equipment belonging to the Healthy for Life program. • Working with the Healthy for Life team in each centre to ensure individual and program goals are being met. Health Promotion • WAMS 25 Year celebrations • “Deadly Girls” group exercise classes Conclusion The Healthy for Life program remains a challenge with attendance continually low. With the help of Healthy for Life RN Rebecca Alcock my aim is to increased attendance for initial appointments and exercise sessions over the next period. I look forward to this challenge.
