Mythic Catalogue?<br />

COMING SOON FROM<br />

By old-school standards, <strong>the</strong> list <strong>of</strong> mythic items<br />

described <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> M&M rules was fairly modest,<br />

especially when compared to <strong>the</strong> ones found <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

earliest imitations <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> game – remember <strong>the</strong> 921<br />

magic items from Warfare & Wizardry?<br />

Silly Jokes<br />

<strong>The</strong> Bag <strong>of</strong> W<strong>in</strong>ds was, <strong>of</strong> course, <strong>the</strong> subject <strong>of</strong><br />

various gross jokes (sometimes with all-too-vivid<br />

sound effects) by unsavory players - but never <strong>in</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> presence <strong>of</strong> female gamers, as noted by an<br />

anonymous Maze Master <strong>in</strong> his letter to Griff<strong>in</strong><br />

magaz<strong>in</strong>e, which listed <strong>the</strong> « 20 Good Reasons to<br />

Get Girls <strong>in</strong> a Gam<strong>in</strong>g Group ».<br />

Unique Artifacts<br />

Ah, <strong>the</strong> Head <strong>of</strong> Orpheus…<br />

<strong>The</strong> quest for its recovery was <strong>the</strong> central <strong>the</strong>me <strong>of</strong><br />

my first truly epic M&M campaign as a player.<br />

It sent us <strong>in</strong>to a series <strong>of</strong> wild adventures across <strong>the</strong><br />

Middle Sea, with myriads <strong>of</strong> perils and monsters<br />

(<strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g a homebrew creature called <strong>the</strong> Hekkarax<br />

- don’t ask) and a rival group <strong>of</strong> Atlantean Nobles<br />

who wanted to use <strong>the</strong> Head as part <strong>of</strong> some<br />

nefarious (and pretty confused) master plan.<br />

After a dozen sessions (and a few deaths!), we<br />

eventually found <strong>the</strong> Head and brought it back to a<br />

secret shr<strong>in</strong>e – but not before my own Lyrist<br />

character Eurybiad had (<strong>of</strong> course) overdosed on its<br />

Wisdom, s<strong>in</strong>k<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>to a state <strong>of</strong> dark melancholy. He<br />

was cured by <strong>the</strong> Div<strong>in</strong>e Intervention <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Muse<br />

Calliope herself - but, hey, that’s ano<strong>the</strong>r story…<br />
