Weaver Leather has a long history of using leather finishes. It goes way back to the 1970s when Weaver Leather’s
founder, Harry Weaver, used oils, dyes and finishes in his harness and shoe shop. I had the privilege of working with
Harry from the fall of 1974 until his death in the fall of 1984. In that 10 years, Harry always freely shared his knowledge
with me. He taught me how to use many of the products we still use in our shop today.
In addition to what Harry taught me, I’ve also learned a great deal from customers who have become friends through the
years. Harry taught me the importance of applying top finishes in a thin, even manner. Our friends at J.H. Bowman, who
are third and fourth generation harnessmakers, shared the tip of adding a bit of ammonia to Fiebing’s Dry Form Edge
Powder (found on page 202) for increased dye absorption.

Many of the dyes, paints and finishes you’ll find on these pages are ones that we not only sell, but use daily in our shop.
You will discover, as we have, that these products are made using only the finest ingredients that will stand the test of
time. You will find that the oils, dyes and finishes throughout this section will enhance the value of your end products.
A special tip I always like to share is to remember to always test a new finish on a scrap piece of leather. This shows
you what the end result will be and helps prevent an undesirable finish.
